RHOA Recap: Fake Booties, Fake Vegans, and Fake Businesses

I have a guilty pleasure when it comes to watching medical mishaps on The Real Housewives. I definitely don’t want anyone to get seriously hurt, but their over-the-top reactions afterward are always so entertaining. Vicki Gunvalson is the queen of these moments – remember when she needed a wheelchair after mixing medication in Iceland? And who could forget Tammy dramatically lying on the floor in Miami while Shereé frantically called for help? Or Angie K’s finger injury in a seahorse costume? Maybe it’s a little mean, but it makes for great television!

K. Michelle is continuing to be a standout cast member, and this week’s episode featured a funny and relatable moment: dealing with complications from a Brazilian Butt Lift. Despite feeling unwell, she fully committed to the ‘Housewives’ experience, getting her makeup and hair done at the hospital before meeting up with Phaedra, Porsha, and Cynthia for a girls’ day. It’s great to see K. Michelle interacting with veteran Real Housewives of Atlanta stars – their chemistry is clear, and she fits right in. While a dramatic entrance like Vicki Gunvalson’s wheelchair moment would have been iconic, even watching K. Michelle struggle up the stairs with help from the nail tech was classic diva behavior. Phaedra recognized the dedication, reminding everyone that she herself had a full face of makeup while giving birth in public!

Phaedra’s recent behavior reminded me of a time when she was more original and engaging, instead of just copying Porsha and repeating lines she’d clearly practiced. After working hard to earn her place back on the show after being demoted, it’s clear something has changed. In trying to make amends for past conflicts, Phaedra has lost the energy and personality that once made her such a captivating reality TV star. She’s naturally good at playing the villain, but her current attempt to appear innocent and only be scheming off-camera is making her famous ‘Shade Assassin’ persona fall flat.

It’s not just Phaedra who seems to be trying to balance different sides of her life – Lisa Barlow does too. But what bothers me is that Phaedra doesn’t seem to contribute much else to the show to compensate for it. Lisa, whether you like her or not, definitely puts in effort on RHOSLC. Honestly, I’m starting to wonder if Phaedra is even trying! This episode had some really good moments where the women showed their vulnerable sides – Angela trying to rebuild her real estate career while dealing with grief, Drew navigating her divorce, and Pinky filing for bankruptcy to start over. But Phaedra mostly just gets caught gossiping about Pinky’s veganism. While the rumor itself is funny, especially given Pinky’s public image, it does make you wonder about Pinky’s husband selling meat, considering she’s a PETA board member. Pinky is right to be concerned about the financial impact, but it’s odd she seems more upset about that than the ethical implications. It doesn’t really matter to me who she marries or what they eat, but PETA might have something to say about it. I’ll admit, Phaedra is good at strategically causing drama.

The newcomers are frustrated with Phaedra’s lack of involvement, and K. Michelle questioned it bluntly to Cynthia and Pinky, asking what Phaedra was even doing. Pinky then made a bizarre joke about Phaedra being preoccupied with disturbing things, which even NeNe found odd. Leaving aside the strange cannibalism comments, the others are right to wonder what Phaedra is up to. K. Michelle pointed out that a lawyer who isn’t practicing law is someone you can’t trust, and it’s true – we haven’t seen Phaedra in court or doing any of the things she used to, like practicing Reiki. Maybe Phaedra should take a cue from Cynthia and appear as a friend of the show, making occasional appearances for fun and to reminisce about the past. Her recent conversation with Pinky and K. Michelle actually contributed more to the season’s storyline than anything Phaedra has done in the last three episodes.

Honestly, watching Shamea is a bit much compared to Phaedra. This whole rum business feels so random after her music, and even her husband, Gerald, seems as confused as I am! It’s starting to feel like one of those classic ‘Housewives’ gimmicks – you know, like Meredith’s caviar or whatever Gizelle and Ashley tried with GNA. Gerald clearly thinks it’s a bit of a waste of time; he only gets a couple of lines on camera and used them to basically say it’s ‘fine’ as long as Shamea actually tries. There’s even footage of him grilling a potential partner, asking all the real business questions that Shamea doesn’t seem to care about, and then just walking off when he decides it’s not ready! But for Shamea, it’s not about actually succeeding with the rum, it’s about getting screen time and looking the part. She’ll milk this idea for all it’s worth, even if it’s a total flop.

While Shamea is focused on her business ventures, K. Michelle reacts to a thoughtless comment from Porsha, marking the first time we see her truly engaged. At the nail salon, K. reveals she needed two hours of reconstructive surgery after an incision became infected. She explains experiencing heavy bleeding at the Academy of Country Music Honors, and Porsha’s subsequent question about a possible miscarriage clearly upsets her, though K. tries to brush it off. Later, she voices her frustration on Twitter, a habit she’s had since her time on Love and Hip Hop.

The tweets featured phrases like “I’ll just sit here and react, I’m not getting involved in any drama,” and a simple “activated.” One tweet, which stood out, said, “Confident people can be the loudest. Just be quiet.” Since K. Michelle didn’t respond right away, it was unclear who the tweet was about until she explained her frustration to Cynthia and Pinky. Cynthia, knowing Porsha well, quickly realized this was another instance of Porsha saying something without thinking. She pointed out that Porsha often speaks impulsively and, while an apology to K. Michelle is warranted, she believes the comment wasn’t meant to be malicious. I agree—this situation is similar to the time Porsha famously said, “your injured son and… daughter” to Kim Zolciak, and was unintentionally funny. I suspect Porsha exaggerated her reaction for the cameras, spontaneously saying whatever came to mind when she heard about the incident to make the scene more dramatic.

Even though Cynthia believes Porsha’s comment was just a mistake, K. Michelle is upset. She feels Porsha already knew about her health issues before they met at the nail salon and sees this as a deliberate attempt to hurt her, similar to how Porsha previously confronted Kelli. K. Michelle also seems to be approaching this situation defensively, likely because of past negative experiences with former castmates and the show’s reputation for drama. She’s overanalyzing everything, assuming others are trying to create conflict for the show.

Pinky and Cynthia both encourage K. to hear Porsha’s perspective. They had a good conversation where K. acknowledged the tweets were directed at Porsha, and Porsha assured her she would never be insensitive about a miscarriage, given her own personal experience. While they ended on a more positive note, K. was still left feeling uneasy. I suspect Porsha’s tendency to speak without thinking will cause problems again, and I’m anticipating K.’s reaction and the resulting tweets.

Peach Tea To-Go:

I get why Drew is hesitant to talk openly about her relationship with Blakk – she doesn’t want to give him more leverage in their divorce. However, their recent dinner date didn’t make things look any better. It seemed like a romantic night out, with flirting and affectionate glances, and Blakk showing off his physique with an open shirt.

K. Michelle is bringing a uniquely Southern wit to Atlanta, something I really appreciate. Her funny, outspoken moments – like playfully teasing Porsha or mimicking Phaedra – have filled a comedic void since NeNe Leakes departed. She has a real gift for delivering sharp, humorous commentary.

The more Pinky shares about her business and personal life, the more curious I become. It’s a surprising decision to film a crying scene in a lawyer’s office while starting the bankruptcy process, especially before telling her husband – particularly since they don’t have a prenuptial agreement.
