The upcoming Star Wars film featuring Daisy Ridley as Rey has encountered another delay, as projects like Shawn Levy’s Starfighter and another movie are progressing ahead at Lucasfilm.
In the closing moments of “The Rise of Skywalker”, Rey made her way back to Tatooine, carrying her golden lightsaber. Following the appearance of the Force spirits of Luke and Leia, she acknowledged her lineage by claiming to be a Skywalker.
The conclusion was divisive, setting the stage for an ambiguous future for the character. At this year’s Star Wars Celebration in 2023, it became known that Daisy Ridley will return to her role in a film helmed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. This new movie will follow Rey as she endeavors to rebuild the Jedi Order.

Star Wars puts Rey movie “on hold”
Based on a recent update by insider Daniel Richtman, it appears that the production of the Rey film has been paused yet again, since the upcoming Star Wars films directed by Shawn Levy and James Mangold are taking priority.
In a fresh addition to the Star Wars saga, Levy is helming Star Wars: Starfighter. This film takes place post-The Rise of Skywalker and will feature Ryan Gosling as one of its main characters. The story appears to revolve around a teenager and his uncle embarking on an adventure across the galaxy.
In my gaming world, Mangold’s endeavor, Dawn of the Jedi, is hands down the most captivating. As the name implies, it’s all about delving into the roots of the Force and the initial guardians who wielded it in the Star Wars timeline. It promises an epic journey that takes us back to the very beginning.
Rest assured, there’s no need for excessive concern regarding the Rey movie. According to Richtman, the project has merely been paused, not scrapped altogether. So, it’s likely that we’ll see it in the future.
George Nolfi (of The Bourne Ultimatum fame) is presently set to pen the screenplay for the upcoming Star Wars film featuring Rey. Earlier this year, Ridley shared with Comic Book that he has not yet read the most recent script, but understands the plot and storyline, and feels great about George’s involvement given his exceptional writing skills.
