Someone might have used a pencil as a weapon, but they’re no match for Revolver Lily. This story brings the powerful and mysterious Baba Yaga to the roaring twenties, following a retired assassin who’s forced to return to her violent past to safeguard a young boy. It’s essentially John Wick meets Taken, but with a classic, vintage feel – and yes, you’re seeing that correctly!
The new action thriller Revolver Lily, directed by renowned filmmaker Isao Yukisada, stars Ayase Haruka (known for Our Little Sister and Ichi) in her first action-leading role, a performance already recognized with a Best Actress nomination at the 2024 Japanese Academy Awards. The film features a compelling premise – a retired elite assassin forced back into action – and a recently released clip, “Train Trespass,” hints at a thrilling blend of *John Wickstyle action set in the glamorous Roaring Twenties.
The film Revolver Lily, based on the novel by Kyo Nagaura, features a talented cast including Hasegawa Hiroki (known for Shin Godzilla), Hamura Jinsei (Gold Boy), Shishido Kavaka (Trillion Game), and many others. Originally released in 2023, Revolver Lily is now available to stream digitally thanks to Well Go USA Entertainment. You can also purchase the Blu-ray and DVD exclusively on Amazon starting February 10th. Read the synopsis and watch footage below to learn more!
I’m completely hooked on this story! It centers around Yuri, a former Japanese assassin who’s traded in killing for running a discreet, shall we say, establishment. But her quiet life gets shattered when she hears about a suspicious death – a former colleague. Something doesn’t add up, and now the colleague’s son is on the run from the military. Yuri feels compelled to protect him, and she’ll go to any lengths to do it. It’s a thrilling setup, honestly!
‘Revolver Lily’s Particular Set of Skills Would Make Even Baba Yaga Blush
The newly released footage from Revolver Lily immediately establishes a classic action thriller vibe. It opens with a young boy being threatened by armed men, and a cool, determined woman quickly emerges as a striking contrast to the fear around her. She refuses to stand by and soon proves she’s anything but an ordinary bystander. She expertly takes down her attackers with skills that would even impress a seasoned action hero like John Wick, and the clip is sure to grab the attention of action fans.
