Resident Evil Requiem actress reveals Capcom’s intense recording setup

Filming for Resident Evil: Requiem often took place in almost complete darkness, and real stunt performers were used to make the action feel more believable.

You’ve likely come across funny modifications that make the game Resident Evil: Revelations seem less frightening. However, despite those jokes, it’s genuinely a scary horror game, and Capcom worked hard to create that feeling of tension both within the game and during its development.

I was reading an interview with Angela Sant’Albano, the actress who plays Grace Ashcroft, and she talked about how much the developers did during recording to really make the game scary. It sounds like they went all out to help her bring that sense of fear to life!

The experience was created to mimic the feeling of actually being chased by a zombie.

Sant’Albano praised Capcom for providing a really engaging visual experience for the actors. It wasn’t simply a matter of having them stand around – they were fully immersed in the environment.

To make things feel more real, the studio recreated sections of the set with desks and objects from the game. Stunt performers also physically engaged with the actors, sometimes running at them or grabbing them during filming.

Interestingly, much like her character Grace, who is often shown walking around in the dark, the actress herself seems to be going through a similarly shadowy period.

We’d completely darken the studio, only using flashlights or the lights attached to our cameras. She explained that Capcom did a great job of creating a realistic atmosphere without actually having someone dressed as a zombie chase you around.

To really get us into the scary parts, the creators would show us early sketches of the monsters or describe some seriously gross details. It helped us react more realistically, you know? Like, knowing exactly what we were supposed to be horrified by made a huge difference in my performance. It wasn’t just acting blind – we had a solid picture of the horror in our heads.

One example was: “Maybe it has this sore, and the sore is particularly gory on the left hand.”

How scary Resident Evil Requiem is will depend on the player. Some are even changing the experience by choosing to play as a character from Umamusume, effectively lessening the horror.
