Reports surfaced online yesterday of a significant hack targeting a leading video game company. The hacker group, known as Crimson Collective, is claiming they successfully stole internal data from Nintendo.
A breach at Nintendo?
Okay, so these hackers are claiming they’ve breached something, but honestly, all they’ve shown so far is a screenshot of some folders. They’re saying those folders are packed with info about upcoming games, stuff developers use, admin files, backups – the whole nine yards. But it’s just a picture right now, so I’m taking it with a grain of salt.
I saw this crazy screenshot on X – it was posted by an account called Hackmanac, and they seem to be all about tracking actual, confirmed cyberattacks. And get this – attached to the post was a message *from* the hackers themselves! It read:
Who said we didn’t have files related to Nintendo?
Currently, Nintendo hasn’t confirmed or denied reports of a data breach. Because of this, the information should be treated as unverified and potentially inaccurate.
Crimson Collective recently hacked Red Hat and stole around 570 GB of data from its GitHub repositories. They then tried to demand a ransom from the company, but Red Hat didn’t respond. A similar situation could now be unfolding with Nintendo.
Sony, a major Japanese company, has experienced several significant security breaches over the years. In 2020, a hacker who gained access to an employee’s login information in 2016 was brought to justice. More recently, around 1 terabyte of data belonging to the Pokemon game developers was stolen.
Once official information from Nintendo is available, we will notify you right away.
