REPO Ghost Haul on the PS Store isn’t the real horror hit from Steam. Don’t get scammed

As a gamer, I’ve noticed that game copying by other developers isn’t something new or surprising – it’s been going on for quite some time, especially with popular titles becoming magnets for low-cost imitations. However, the case of R.E.P.O., the Steam sensation that attracted over 50K players in a single night, has reached an alarming level. It seems like there’s a never-ending stream of rip-offs, and even though some have been removed, another one appears to be under development.

Scam alert! Fake R.E.P.O. games are showing up on PS store

As of now (March 20), R.E.P.O., which was launched on Steam in Early Access on February 26, 2025, can only be played there. At present, there’s no information regarding a console or mobile release. However, imitation games bearing resemblance to R.E.P.O. are appearing on Google Play and the App Store. Be aware, these aren’t the authentic version of the game.

The programming team has added security features to keep the computer version of the game from being illegally copied, yet handling counterfeits on different platforms proves to be a significantly larger issue.

On the PlayStation store, it’s been revealed that the game titled “R.E.P.O.: Ghost Haul” is now available, and much like R.E.P.O. Horror, this version appears to be a replica of the original game. Despite the similarities in their descriptions, there are distinct features that differentiate the imitations from the genuine article.

One effective approach to identifying them involves examining the details about who developed or published the game. The authentic R.E.P.O., for instance, was crafted by Semiworks, a modest studio hailing from Sweden. As of now, they haven’t revealed or announced their game on PlayStation 5 or Xbox. Another warning sign is if there are no trailers or screenshots of the gameplay – if these are absent, it’s likely a fake product.
