Rematch Devs Reiterate That Cross-Play Is Still A Priority As Game Takes Off

The creators of the popular sport game Rematch, known as Sloclap, have made clear that cross-play remains one of their primary goals as they continue to refine the game and incorporate highly sought-after features.

According to an interview with Eurogamer, the studio’s CEO Pierre Tarno revealed that cross-play, initially intended to be available at the game’s launch, is one of several social features they plan to incorporate into the game in the future. These additional features may include watching friends play and, surprisingly considering the game’s title, the option to request rematches.

This set of characteristics strengthens the social foundation, which is one of the four main transformation pillars that Tarno refers to as essential aspects in Rematch’s gameplay, categorized as “social, fundamental gameplay, competitive, and leisurely” according to Eurogamer.

It wasn’t until a day before the release that players learned about the absence of Rematch’s cross-play functionality. This information was shared by Sloclap on the game’s social media platforms, emphasizing that it was one of their main focuses for future updates.

Although there isn’t a definitive timeline for when cross-play will be implemented, it appears that Sloclap recognizes the eagerness of Rematch’s community for this feature. However, they are currently focused on resolving various bugs and enhancing the game’s core elements to “continuously enrich and refine the mechanics.

Tarno outlined several adjustments the team plans to implement in Rematch’s core mechanics, such as modifying tackles to either reward or penalize players based on their performance, and improving goalkeeping. Furthermore, they are also considering future additions, like the introduction of clubs and tournaments, expected later this year, and for those who prefer a more relaxed experience, casual-oriented modes to accompany Rematch during its initial season.

Although Tarno made many promises about the release timeline, he didn’t specify any specific dates yet. It seems like he’s emphasizing that the schedule for the game may not be fixed as they are currently focusing on rectifying Rematch’s balance issues and fixing bugs.

As a devoted fan, I can confidently say that the challenges faced by Rematch seem not to have impeded its triumph. In fact, the game has already garnered over a million unique players and continues to grow!
