Red Dead Redemption 2 is expected to get a nextgen update in the coming months, says insider. Announcement may come in days

Update (June 15th)

Rob Wiethoff, the voice actor behind John Marston in Red Dead Redemption 2, hinted at some thrilling news he can’t disclose just yet. He mentioned that an announcement will be made next week, leading many to speculate about potential updates for RDR2 on Switch 2 or new features for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Original news (June 5th)

Based on recent whispers, it’s being said that Rockstar Games studio intends to update the world of Red Dead Redemption 2. A trusted source, NateTheHate2, has shared this information. It’s not the first time such rumors have surfaced, but given the credibility of the source, it seems more plausible.

  1. The game is getting a “next-gen update” to improve it on Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PlayStation 5 consoles, bringing it up to modern standards. Currently, the owners of these devices are simply playing the PS4 and XONE versions.
  2. There are also plans to convert the game to Nintendo Switch 2.
  3. Both the next-gen update and the version for Switch 2 are set to launch this fall. This is the most interesting part of these reports because this date was missing from earlier rumors.

The question is, what features should a next-generation update include, as per the expectations of Rockstar Games enthusiasts? Ben has shared his own wishlist (specifically for PS5) that includes the following points.

  1. 60 fps mode,
  2. ray tracing,
  3. use of DualSense features,
  4. new content for Red Dead Online.

Apart from the last point, everything else appears plausible. It’s been some time since Rockstar Games halted development on Red Dead Online, but if they were to release a next-generation version and a Switch 2 port for Red Dead Redemption 2, it would be an ideal chance for them to revitalize the online mode of RDR2.
