Filmax Studio based in Barcelona is taking their newest project, the psychological thriller “The Nest,” to the Cannes Market. This film is directed by Hugo Steven, known for “Solo,” and features Michelle Jenner from “Berlin” and “Julieta” as the lead actress.
For the movie “The Nest,” the team behind it has filmed a promotional video to attract potential buyers at the Cannes Film Market, prior to the actual production of the film which will take place over the coming months, similar to what Filmax did for “Darkness” during its successful run in the U.S. as a Miramax hit.
Filmax has shared the promo in exclusivity with EbMaster:
A Different Take on “The Nest”
The promotion is written in English, but the movie itself will be filmed in Spanish. Written by Santiago Lallana (“Solo”), César de Nicolás and Stuven, “The Nest” revolves around Marta, who is so fixated on shielding her family from the menacing external world that she confines her mother and young son within their secluded mountain village home. All appears to be smooth sailing until a man unexpectedly shows up, determined to shatter everything Marta has constructed.
As I cradle my son, I share the strict guidelines passed down by my mother: “We’re bound to roam only under the cover of night, never setting foot during daylight. The forest must always be avoided, for it breeds evil within its depths. And above all else, keep a safe distance from the truth-telling box.” The camera lingers on a massive, shackled container, and I emphasize the final rule with a shiver: “No one, not even us, should ever approach that truth-revealing box.” The faint sound of labored breathing suggests something or someone is trapped within its confines.
Filmax, responsible for popular genre films such as “[REC],” “The Nameless,” and “The Machinist,” will additionally manage the distribution within Spain and worldwide sales.
For quite some time, we’ve been on the lookout for a suitable project at Filmax that would match the quality of our previous genre film successes. However, we’ve finally found it with ‘The Nest’,” stated Iván Díaz, head of international at Filmax.
Producer Laura Fernández from Filmax comments, ” ‘The Nest’ embodies the key aspects of a traditional thriller, and its portrayal of the secrets hidden within a single family is both unsettling and frightening.
A woman, cold, manipulative, and certain she’s safeguarding her loved ones, confines her mother and child within their home. This unsettling atmosphere makes it both intriguing and terrifying. The narrative unfolds within a single household, a single family, but it mirrors tragic tales that could potentially fill tomorrow’s headlines.
