Netflix’s new political thriller, A House of Dynamite, features a character dealing with a possible nuclear emergency. Interestingly, the actress playing that role recently faced a different kind of pressure on set, describing a co-star as an ‘absolute idiot’.
Recently, Drew Barrymore spoke with *The Sunday Times* again about a certain actor she’s had a difficult experience with, stating she doesn’t need them to know she’s talking about them. She mentioned others who’ve worked with this person also had negative experiences, though she acknowledged the situation was complex and that she doesn’t feel proud of how she handled it. While the actor’s identity remains unknown, Barrymore confirmed she wasn’t referring to Tom Cruise (her *Mission: Impossible* co-star) or Ryan Reynolds (from *Life*).
Life can be complicated. We often blame bullies, but as we mature, we realize they’re often dealing with their own insecurities. However, asserting yourself can be difficult – sometimes it can even cost you your job, with someone else taking your place. She also mentioned that the actor in question hasn’t contacted her, even after she publicly discussed what happened.
In a 2024 interview on the Reign with Josh Smith podcast, Ferguson shared a difficult experience about finding her confidence as an actress. She explained that someone frequently undermined her, questioning her abilities with comments like, “Are you really an actor?” and making disparaging remarks about her work in front of colleagues.
The actor’s harsh words really upset Ferguson, but she finally confronted him. She told him to leave and said she wanted to focus on her work without him. However, the producers intervened, telling her she couldn’t ask him to leave because he was a key part of the show.
Ferguson Continues to Speak Out About Her Frustrating Experience on Set
Following reports of a problem between an actress and a co-star, fans started guessing who the co-star might be. Many names surfaced, including Hugh Grant and Tom Cruise, who have been ruled out, as well as Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Michael Fassbender – all of whom have worked with the actress in leading roles. Dwayne Johnson has publicly supported her in the past, even calling her a ‘guardian angel’ on the set of the 2014 film *Hercules*, making him an unlikely candidate for the person she’s referring to.
A year after sharing her difficult experience, she reflected on how the initial interview unexpectedly went viral. She recalled receiving calls from supportive colleagues who questioned if she realized the impact of her statements. She admitted she hadn’t fully considered it at the time, and frankly, didn’t feel responsible for how others reacted. She explained that she prioritized her own narrative and believed anyone with good intentions wouldn’t be concerned by it.
A House of Dynamite premieres on Netflix on Oct. 24.
