Among the outstanding total conversion mods for Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord, there are a few standouts like The Old Realms with its Warhammer theme, or Shokuho that transports us to Japan’s Sengoku period. However, many players (myself included) might argue that the most captivating mod is Realm of Thrones. Essentially, it’s a representation of the Westeros world from Game of Thrones within the game itself. This mod has been under development since 2021, and the latest version 6.0 is truly remarkable.
Why Realm of Thrones is the ultimate Bannerlord mod right now
In Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord, the mod named “The Realm of Thrones,” created by Carolina Warlord and their team, replaces the Calradia map with Westeros and Essos, immersing players in the universe of the famous series, Game of Thrones. Players can engage with renowned houses such as the Starks, Lannisters, and Targaryens, who possess distinctive units and events inspired by the rich lore of Game of Thrones.
The map encompasses well-known landmarks such as The Wall, Winterfell, and Dragonstone. Furthermore, it features numerous characters we’re familiar with, like Jon Snow or Tyrion Lannister, and you have the opportunity to experience iconic moments like the heartbreaking Red Wedding. Lastly, there are plenty of Game of Thrones-inspired armor and weaponry to choose from for your gear.
In the significant update, version 6.0 (released in March 2025), introduces the looming peril of the Night King and his horde of the undead. Gradually, the lands beyond the Wall fall under their control, and eventually, they advance southward. The game now offers an intriguing option to become a wight or assume command as a White Walker.
In addition to the Long Night event, this update features historical occurrences such as the War of Five Kings, Richard Karstark’s execution, Jorah Mormont’s rebellion, and Aegon’s Invasion. To enhance your gaming experience, they have incorporated the authentic Game of Thrones soundtrack, revamped the user interface, and added custom artworks for town and castle backdrops.
It’s clear that some of us are eagerly anticipating the arrival of the War Sails DLC, which isn’t far off. However, even before its release, the Bannerlord modding community has been providing us with plenty of reasons to be excited!
