Radio Silence production company is back with another chilling film based on a children’s game that turns lethal. This time, they are partnering with Searchlight Pictures for distribution. The movie horror genre will be handled by the collective known as Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett, Justin Martinez, and Chad Villella, who have previously worked on films like “Scream VI”.
The initial film, debuted in 2019, was penned by Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy, and helmed by Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett. It narrates the story of a newlywed who finds out during her wedding reception that her in-laws have an unusual custom of playing a game night, which transforms into a deadly game of Hide and Seek resembling a predator-prey chase – this grisly twist being the result of a pact they made with the devil.
On a modest production budget of just $6 million, the film featuring Adam Brody, Andie MacDowell, and Henry Czerny exceeded expectations, raking in an impressive $28 million within the U.S. markets alone. This made it Searchlight’s top-grossing release in 2019. Predicted to earn between $8–12 million, its success was a delightful surprise and it garnered acclaim for its insightful social commentary and distinctive narrative.
Busick and Murphy are set to write the sequel, though no details of the potential plot have been made public yet. Returning producers include Tripp Vinson, Bradley J. Fischer, William Sherak, and James Vanderbilt. Villella and Tara Farney will executive produce. On the Searchlight side, executive Cornelia Burleigh and Richard Ruiz, VP of production, will be on set, reporting to production and development co-heads DanTram Nguyen and Katie Goodson-Thomas.
