This week signifies the fourth year since the release of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, an exceptional game from the initial phase of PlayStation 5. Despite players likely uncovering most of its hidden features years ago, senior designer Grant Parker has recently disclosed that he secretly embedded a minigame within Rift Apart – a fact that remained undiscovered until this week when he demonstrated it.
As a dedicated gamer tuning into the Insomniac Live stream on Twitch (thanks to VGC), I learned something fascinating from Parker himself. He crafted a thrilling mechanical bull ride mini-game over at Zurkie’s space station, nestled within Rivet’s dimension. However, due to time constraints during development, this game wasn’t ready for the final release.
Instead of removing it altogether, the clever Parker opted to conceal it in an intricate puzzle that only the most diligent gamers might stumble upon and try their luck on.

To play the mini-game, players should stand at Zurkie’s entrance where signs on both sides read “no weapons.” By firing five shots at the left sign and four at the right one, followed by another 13 shots to the left, the mini-game will be activated. Please note that there is no auditory feedback when the code has been correctly entered.
If players input the code correctly and then press L2, they will initiate a mini-game where they must keep Rivet balanced on the bull by moving the right analog stick appropriately. Should the player lose this minigame, there won’t be an animation showing Rivet falling off the bull; instead, she will simply appear back on the ground, ready for another rider to take their turn.
Although no official announcement has been made yet regarding a fresh installment of Ratchet & Clank, it’s worth noting that Rift Apart was released for PC in 2023. It’s likely that the secret minigame by Parker is included in this PC version too.
