The popular Indian production house, Yash Raj Films (YRF), has announced that they will be releasing their action-packed series “Mardaani 3” featuring Rani Mukerji in her role as the courageous police officer, Shivani Shivaji Roy, on a specified date.
The movie is helmed by Abhiraj Minawala, who previously worked on “War 2” and various YRF productions such as “Band Baaja Baraat,” “Sultan,” and the upcoming “Tiger 3.” Notably, Aayush Gupta, fresh from the international acclaim of Netflix’s “The Railway Men,” is responsible for the screenplay. This marks his debut as a screenwriter in streaming productions by YRF.
Abhiraj Minawala, who has worked on movies like “War 2” and several other YRF projects such as “Band Baaja Baraat,” “Sultan,” and “Tiger 3,” is the director of this film. The script was written by Aayush Gupta, who recently achieved international success with Netflix’s “The Railway Men.” This was his first screenplay for a streaming project produced by YRF.
The production team unveiled a powerful sneak peek of Mukerji embodying her legendary character, simultaneously announcing a tactically chosen release date that aligns with its thought-provoking theme. According to Mukerji herself, the movie is “grim, lethal, and ruthless.” It’s set to premiere in cinemas on February 27, 2026, cleverly timed before the Holi festivities. This timing seems intentional as Holi that year falls on March 4, representing the victory of good over evil – much like the film’s central struggle between Shivani’s virtue and the malevolent forces she will confront.
The ‘Mardaani’ series has established itself as a standout in Hindi cinema, running for a decade and garnering both commercial triumph and critical praise. It has gained a cult following within Indian cinema lovers and stands alone as the nation’s leading female police franchise.
With the release date set around Holi, it’s likely that viewers will witness a brutal confrontation between Mukerji’s character and the movie’s villains, as YRF refers to it as a “bloody, violent clash.
Mukerji was last seen in critical and commercial success “Mrs. Chatterjee vs. Norway” (2023).
