Randeep Hooda Bags Rights to ‘Operation Khukri,’ Set to Star in Epic War Drama (EXCLUSIVE)

Following the triumph of his latest movie “Jaat”, Bollywood actor Randeep Hooda has secured the screen adaptation rights for the popular military novel “Operation Khukri“.

Hooda has acquired the film rights to “Operation Khukri: The Unknown Tale of India’s Bravest Peacekeeping Mission Overseas” written by Major General Rajpal Punia and Damini Punia, marking the beginning of his next significant venture – a military movie portraying one of the Indian Army’s daring foreign operations.

As a movie enthusiast, I can’t wait to watch “Operation Khukri,” a film that recreates the gripping true events of 2000, when I, as Major General Raj Pal Punia (then a young Company Commander of the 14th Mechanised Infantry), found myself in a nerve-wracking hostage situation with 233 Indian soldiers held captive by rebel forces in Sierra Leone, West Africa. The movie will depict the heart-stopping rescue mission that followed, a daring operation I personally orchestrated under the toughest jungle warfare conditions.

The initial objective started as a peacekeeping endeavor, however, it transformed into a 75-day confrontation marked by tension, pushing the limits of the Indian forces stationed in Kailahun, who were trapped without resources amidst unforgiving landscapes. Subsequently, they launched a daring counterattack, which would later be celebrated as one of the most triumphant military operations in India’s history.

Rahul Mittra Films and Randeep Hooda Films have uniquely obtained the rights to adapt the blockbuster book by Penguin Random House, providing a genuine insider’s perspective on the mission, directly from Major General Punia, its mastermind.

Hooda expressed his profound emotions about ‘Operation Khukri’, stating it’s not merely a saga of weapons and triumph, but one of sacrifice, camaraderie, and indomitable courage against seemingly impossible circumstances. Taking on the role of Major General Punia, who led his troops out after a 75-day siege in an uncharted territory, is both an honor and a duty for him. Our goal is to breathe life into an often overlooked chapter of Indian military history that truly merits greater acclaim – not only for its visual appeal, but for the indomitable spirit of our soldiers who preferred death over surrender. Hooda believes this story has the potential to stir the hearts of every Indian.
