Rachel Zegler to Star Alongside Marisa Tomei in Comedy Drama ‘She Gets It From Me’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Fresh off being named a Disney princess, Rachel Zegler has secured her initial role following “Snow White,” and she’s slated to portray the character who is the daughter of Marisa Tomei’s free-spirited mother in the comedic drama titled “She Gets It From Me.

The movie is being directed by Julia von Heinz, who has previously worked on “Treasure” and Germany’s 2021 Oscar submission “And Tomorrow the Entire World”. Embankment will initiate worldwide pre-sales for the film during Cannes.

Inspired by real events, the movie “She Gets It From Me” narrates the tale of Nicky (Zegler), whose joyous engagement party unexpectedly transforms into a quest to find her medication-dependent, former punk rocker mother, Charlotte (Tomei). This journey takes them on an unconventional voyage as they strive to rebuild their relationship.

While YouTube is filled with emotional family reunion videos, you won’t find many clips capturing the less-than-perfect moments that follow.

3311 Productions, known for movies like “The Assistant,” “Brigsby Bear,” and “Table 19,” is teaming up with Anna Werner from Seven Elephants (famous for “And Tomorrow the Entire World,” “Sun and Concrete,” and “Treasure”) and Jay Reiss, a Tony Award winner (“The Twenty Fifth Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” “The Oranges”), who is also responsible for writing the script. Embankment Films takes care of international distribution, while CAA manages U.S. rights.

Von Heinz remarked that the movie’s emotional truth, which mirrors aspects of our everyday lives, is both hilarious and engaging, offering a unique cinematic experience. Jay’s script skillfully portrays family relationships at their rawest: they are absurd yet insightful, chaotic yet significant. The blend of two distinct worlds results in humor that resonates profoundly due to its honesty.

As a huge fan, I can’t help but express my admiration for Rachel. Her ability to infuse depth and humanity into every role is truly remarkable, and I can’t wait to see more of her versatile acting skills on display – not forgetting the dose of humor she always manages to incorporate!

Rachel Zegler has been rapidly rising in her career since she made a splash in Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of “West Side Story” (a role that earned her a Golden Globe), and she’s continued to impress with appearances in “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes” and the live-action version of “Snow White.” Notably, it was recently announced that she will star as the leading role in “Evita” at the London Palladium.

Meanwhile, Oscar-winning and three-time nominee Tomei balances her career by taking on both independent and major studio projects. She is recognized for playing May Parker in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and has recently been seen in films such as “She Came to Me,” which premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival, and the romantic comedy “Upgraded” on Prime Video.
