Quentin Tarantino’s debut play is a “swashbuckling” comedy called The Popinjay Cavalier

Quentin Tarantino’s first stage play has a title and a description now. It’s being called a grand and romantic tribute to the world of theatre.

As fans eagerly await Quentin Tarantino’s tenth and possibly last movie, the director is currently working on other creative endeavors.

Quentin Tarantino has successfully ventured into writing novels, first adapting his film Once Upon a Time In Hollywood and then publishing Cinema Speculation, which has received widespread critical praise.

He’s now bringing his work to the London stage with a new play set in the 1830s that seems like a humorous parody.

Quentin Tarantino’s The Popinjay Cavalier to open in early 2027

Quentin Tarantino is writing his first stage play, called ‘The Popinjay Cavalier,’ which will premiere in London’s West End in early 2027.

Fans learned about the play when Quentin Tarantino mentioned it on the Church of Tarantino podcast. He said the script is finished and his next project. He plans to begin working on it in January, estimating it will take between a year and a half to two years to complete, and even starting fresh, it should be ready for an audience within a year.

It’s official: Quentin Tarantino is working with Sonia Friedman Productions, the team behind popular West End shows like Stranger Things: The First Shadow, Paddington: The Musical, and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

Deadline revealed the show’s description: The Popinjay Cavalier is a funny, fast-paced story of trickery and hidden identities, set in 1830s Europe. It’s inspired by classic adventure stories, and celebrates the excitement of theater with the energetic style and humor of Quentin Tarantino.

Currently, that’s all the information we have about the show. However, the Daily Mail recently described it as a classic British comedy, which could be why it’s premiering in London.
