The 1980s sitcom *Punky Brewster* was incredibly popular with kids and teens. The show followed the life of Penelope “Punky” Brewster, a young girl growing up with a foster parent in Chicago. It originally ran from 1984 to 1986, with reruns continuing until 1988. The show’s lasting appeal is clear, as it spawned both an animated spin-off and a new version that premiered in 2021.
Soleil Moon Frye famously starred as the playful and spirited Punky Brewster in the popular sitcom. Many fans have been curious about what she’s been up to lately, as she hasn’t been a prominent figure in the media for some time (according to Adorocinema).
So, after the original *Punky Brewster* show wrapped up, I learned Soleil Moon Frye didn’t really *leave* Punky behind – she actually voiced the character again in the animated series from ’85 to ’86! She kept acting too, doing smaller parts here and there. It’s kinda wild, but she even showed up on *Friends* back in ’99! I totally recognized her – she played Katie in the episode where this girl accidentally hits Joey. It was a small role, but still cool to see her!
After becoming famous for her role as Punky Brewster, Soleil Moon Frye went on to play Roxie King in *Sabrina the Teenage Witch* for 66 episodes between 2000 and 2003. Following that, she largely focused on voice acting, providing her voice for shows like *Bratz*, *Robot Chicken*, and *Planet Sheen*. Currently, she voices the character Zoey in *The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder*.
Fans got to revisit their childhood in 2021 when Soleil Moon Frye reprised her role as Punky Brewster in a revival of the classic sitcom. The new season consisted of ten episodes released on Peacock.
Soleil Moon Frye isn’t just an actress
Beyond acting, Soleil Moon Frye also became a filmmaker. She started studying at The New School in 1996 and directed her first movie, *Wild Horses*, in 1998. Since then, she’s made two documentaries: *Sonny Boy* (2004) and *Kid 90* (2021), with Leonardo DiCaprio as an executive producer on the latter.
Soleil Moon Frye’s other projects after Punky Brewster
She wasn’t just known for her acting. She also wrote two books: Happy Chaos: From Punky to Parenting and My Perfectly Imperfect Adventures in Between, which detailed her lively and often unpredictable life, and Let’s Get This Party Started, a guide to throwing great parties.
Besides being an author, she also created and hosted the online show *Her Say* and maintains a blog where she writes about parenting and topics important to women – something she still does regularly.
The actress previously owned a children’s boutique and started a business that sold party supplies. Clearly, she had many interests and successfully pursued other ventures alongside her acting career.
