On the game-voucher section of the Switch 2 eShop, there is a notice reminding users that these vouchers are not valid for Nintendo Switch 2 games. Similarly, on the web version of this page, it’s clarified that these vouchers are applicable only for the original Nintendo Switch (including the Lite and OLED models) and cannot be used to purchase games exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2.
The vouchers are applicable on the Switch 2 system, yet they are limited to buying games originally released for the Switch 1. If a game has an enhanced edition specifically for Switch 2, the voucher will only acquire the Switch 1 version of that game. However, you can subsequently pay extra to upgrade it to the Switch 2 edition. Games like Tears of the Kingdom and Breath of the Wild have upgraded versions on Switch 2, and using vouchers could help you save money, as these enhanced editions typically cost around $10.
Among the games that qualify for vouchers, there are several titles set to receive free updates on the upcoming Switch 2. These include Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, and others.
