PS5’s Indiana Jones Was The Week’s Top Seller, But It Wasn’t In The Top 15 Most-Played

On April 17, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, an Xbox game, made its debut on PS5, and it appears to have had a successful introduction. According to tracking firm Circana, it was the top-selling title in the US during its initial release week. Yet, it failed to approach the popularity of the most frequently played games on PS5.

As a devoted gamer, I’ll never forget the thrill of seeing The Great Circle claim the top spot on the sales charts for its PS5 debut in early 2025. On the other hand, the Xbox and PC versions, released in December 2024, didn’t manage to reach No. 1 during their launch weeks within the US market. Fortunately, subscribers of Game Pass Ultimate on both platforms were able to jump into the game from day one.

Although Indiana Jones and the Great Circle was the top-selling game of the week ending April 19, it failed to break into the US’s top 15 most played games during that same period. Mat Piscatella from Circana suggests this could be due to the current gaming environment dominated by live-service games on modern consoles.

“The big live-service games are sucking the air out of the market,” Piscatella said.

Last week, Call of Duty: HQ was the top-played game on PlayStation and Xbox, with the highest number of active users. On Steam, Marvel Rivals held the first position in the United States, Counter-Strike 2 led in Canada, and REPO claimed the top spot in Mexico.

Machine Games, known for their work on the Wolfenstein series, created Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. As of now, there are no confirmed future projects from this Swedish studio. However, Lucasfilm expressed interest in developing more Indiana Jones games, stating it could be quite intriguing. Similarly, fans are eager to see a new installment in the Wolfenstein franchise.
