‘Project Runway’ Renewed for Season 21, Moves From Bravo to Disney

As a long-time fan of Project Runway, I am beyond thrilled to see this iconic show making its grand return for Season 21! After the numerous network shuffles and host changes over the years, it’s a relief to know that it has finally found a permanent home on Freeform.

“Project Runway” is making it work, returning for Season 21 and moving from Bravo to Disney.

The upcoming fashion competition show is set to premiere first on the Freeform network, which is owned by Disney, before being accessible for streaming on both Disney+ and Hulu. Slated for release in 2025, Season 21 will span over 10 episodes, with each episode airing weekly.

As your trusted guide through the world of cinema and television, let me share some exciting news! I’m thrilled to announce that Freeform has sealed a deal with Spyglass Media Group, the masterminds behind “Project Runway” since its 17th season. This popular show is making its way from NBCUniversal-owned Bravo network and joining the Freeform family. Can’t wait to see what this change brings for our fashion-forward friends!

A host, judges and premiere date have yet to be announced.

From its Bravo premiere in 2004 up until now, “Project Runway” has moved around between different networks, producers, and hosts. Heidi Klum served as the host for the first 16 seasons, while Tim Gunn acted as the designers’ mentor. In 2018, both Klum and Gunn departed from “Project Runway” to helm their own fashion competition series titled “Making the Cut,” which aired on Amazon Prime Video. Karlie Kloss then stepped into hosting duties for the subsequent two seasons, with Christian Siriano assuming the role of mentor. For Seasons 19 and 20, however, Siriano took over both hosting and mentoring roles from Kloss.

In the midst of this, the show “Project Runway” found itself caught up in a lengthy legal conflict between networks and production companies. This began when The Weinstein Company declared they were shifting the show from Bravo to Lifetime, leading to a years-long court case. Eventually, Harvey Weinstein’s company settled with NBCUniversal financially, allowing “Project Runway” to move permanently to Lifetime, where it stayed until 2017. Later on, NBCUniversal regained the rights to “Project Runway,” and it resumed airing on Bravo from 2019 until 2024.

Notably, ‘Project Runway’ has been instrumental in kick-starting the professional journeys of fashion designers such as Siriano, Austin Scarlett, Leanne Marshall, Irina Shabayeva, Michael Costello, and Bishme Cromartie, to name a few.

The show is created by Spyglass Media Group and Alfred Street Industries. Gary Barber acts as the executive producer for Spyglass, while Dan Cutforth, Jane Lipsitz, Dan Volpe, and Nan Strait serve in that capacity for Alfred Street Industries.

Spokesperson for Spyglass, who is both chairman and CEO, declared in a statement, “Over the past 20 seasons, ‘Project Runway’ has kept viewers hooked and built a dedicated fanbase. This series has shown its worth as a strong and lasting brand globally, and we are thrilled to expand the show’s reach within the Freeform, Hulu, and Disney+ platform.
