Project combining Skyrim and Oblivion „only exists because Bethesda allowed it”

It appears that the leak of materials suggesting The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remaster might be disappointing for TESRenewal, as they have been tirelessly working on recreating this classic game using the Skyrim engine for over a decade. Surprisingly, though, the developers are determined not to abandon their efforts.

During a chat with VG247, the focus was indeed on the creators’ response to the recent leak. Notably, the team leader Kyle “Rebelzize” Rebel emphasized that their top priority remains the launch of Skyblivion and maintaining a positive outlook throughout the process.

To my delight, right from the get-go, this journey was fueled by passion and it remains so today. It has yielded far more than I initially anticipated – friendships forged, experiences gained, and a profound realization that I wanted to be part of the gaming industry. Guess what? Here I am, living my dream.

In view of the forthcoming remaster, it’s worth acknowledging that Bethesda chose not to prevent the fan project.

In simpler terms, Skyblivion (the mod) wouldn’t be around if Bethesda hadn’t given their approval for its creation, as stated explicitly by Rebel.

It’s noteworthy that the developer employed a comparable narrative a few months back, when the remaster of “Oblivion” was merely speculation. Here’s what Rebel shared at that time:

To summarize, the focus isn’t solely on selling the game and earning a profit with Skyblivion; instead, it represents the culmination of over a decade of my personal dedication to bring this project to the fans. It’s emblematic of the saying ‘it’s about the journey, not the destination.’ The fact that Skyblibion is almost ready for release is astonishing, considering we embarked on this adventure without a clear roadmap and in some instances, learned through trial and error to reach the finish line.

The specific launch date for Skyblivion hasn’t been announced yet, despite developers planning to release it in 2025. However, gaming insider Jeff Grubb suggests that the Oblivion remaster might come out as early as next week.
