Production on Hideo Kojima’s Physint action espionage game could take another five or six years

Hideo Kojima, renowned and adored video game creator, recently revealed that his upcoming action espionage game in partnership with Sony, titled Physint, won’t be available for another five to six years. As the release of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach approaches next month on June 26th, Kojima is making media rounds. Furthermore, he has unveiled OD, a game shrouded in mystery, which he is collaborating with Jordan Peele, famed director of movies like Get Out and Us.

In January 2024, during a PlayStation State of Play event, a new game titled “Physint” was unveiled without any gameplay footage or previews. Hideo Kojima, along with Hermen Hulst, CEO of Sony’s Studio Business Group, shared some details about the upcoming title. The name “Physint” was displayed on a large sign outside the studio at the end of the announcement, but Kojima never verbally mentioned it during the video. In a chat with Le Film Francais, Kojima shared his aspirations for the Death Stranding movie version and his desire to eventually produce a film of his own. However, he noted that this wouldn’t happen before completing Death Stranding 2 and Physint, projects which he estimates will require another five to six years. This timeframe is common in large-scale game development, but it does curb anticipation about discovering more about this game in the near future.

Intriguingly, during this interview, Kojima didn’t explicitly mention the game OD. However, we have caught glimpses of some tense close-ups from the game in a teaser, leaving many aspects still shrouded in mystery. It’s possible that the production of OD could be encompassed within his five to six years timeframe, but this is not definitively confirmed. Given Kojima’s ability to manage multiple projects, it wouldn’t be surprising if he were also working on a film and OD concurrently, should the need arise.
