Procedurally generated turn-based tactical RPG Wildermyth launches on October 22 for PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch

As an experienced gamer with a soft spot for unique and immersive RPG experiences, I find myself intrigued by the upcoming release of Wildermyth: Console Edition. Having had the chance to delve into its PC version earlier this year, I was captivated by its papercraft world that seemed straight out of a fairytale pop-up book. The character-driven narrative and procedurally generated encounters were a breath of fresh air, offering a departure from traditional fantasy tropes.

On October 22nd, the game “Wildermyth” is set to debut on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. This title, which offers a blend of procedurally generated turn-based strategy and RPG gameplay, was initially released in June 2021 following an Early Access phase, by publishers Auroch Digital and developers Worldwalker Games.

In the console edition, you’ll find an updated interface and control scheme designed for seamless gameplay with gamepads. Furthermore, this version introduces a fresh Monster Compendium and supports local multiplayer cooperation.

In my assessment of the PC edition, I found Wildermyth to be both technically impressive and strikingly original. Regrettably, however, the final product didn’t live up to my expectations as much as I had hoped. Despite this, it offers a unique visual style and a robust combat system, making it an genuinely distinctive game.

Details about the console announcement trailer and additional information are provided below by Auroch Digital. The game will also be physically released on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch.

Today, Auroch Digital revealed their plans to release the widely praised game Wildermyth from Worldwalker Games on platforms such as Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S, with a scheduled launch date of 22nd October.

In Wildermyth: Console Edition, you’ll find an engaging, tactical role-playing game that focuses on characters. As you guide your group of farmers-turned-heroes, you’ll encounter pivotal moments where your choices will shape their personalities, alter their appearances, bestow new skills upon them, and create a storyline tailored just for you.

The game’s setting resembles tabletop role-playing games, with each scene appearing as if it were a captivating page from a fairy tale pop-up book. Great care has been taken to produce something genuinely distinctive, challenging conventional fantasy elements and fostering innovative concepts: instead of orcs and elves, consider telepathic insect dragons and mechanical undead hybrids!

Every journey eventually comes to an end, yet the legacy of your characters lives on through their offspring, making up the majority of your fresh team in subsequent quests. Your beloved protagonists can find themselves enshrined in a timeless hall of fame, reappearing whenever you embark on new adventures once more.

Two new features

  • Monster Compendium
  • Local cooperative multiplayer

In Wildermyth: Console Edition, two fresh additions have been incorporated. The first is the Monster Compendium, a book within the game that offers comprehensive details and backstories about adversaries and their allied factions. Secondly, it introduces local cooperative play, enabling multiple players to control various characters simultaneously, thus sharing in a common, interwoven narrative.

Wildermyth: Console Edition will be available digitally on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. Physical editions of the game will be available from select retailers for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and 5 and will include a physical copy of the Monster Compendium and a new ‘Off-hand Item Skin Pack’ DLC, featuring a collection of off-hand items such as torches, shields and more.
