As a dedicated movie buff with years of experience in following the Indian streaming scene, I find the Ormax Media report for the first half of 2024 particularly intriguing. The data presented reveals some fascinating insights into the most-watched shows and films across various genres and languages on popular streaming platforms like Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+ Hotstar, JioCinema, ETV Win, ZEE5, Aha, SonyLIV, and Discovery+.
In the first half of 2024, “Panchayat” Season 3 on Prime Video was India’s most-watched show with a total of 28.2 million viewers, as stated in Ormax Media’s mid-year report.
In the latest viewership statistics, “Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar” on Netflix ranked second with approximately 20.3 million viewers. “Indian Police Force” on Prime Video took the third place with around 19.5 million viewers. Fourth place went to “Kota Factory” Season 3 on Netflix, which drew in about 15.7 million viewers. Disney+ Hotstar’s “The Legend of Hanuman” Seasons 3 and 4 claimed fifth place with a viewership of approximately 14.8 million.
In the category of Hindi-language direct-to-streaming films, Netflix held the first and second positions, with “Amar Singh Chamkila” drawing in 12.9 million viewers and “Murder Mubarak” attracting 12.2 million. The third rank went to Prime Video’s “Ae Watan Mere Watan,” which had 11.5 million viewers. Netflix’s “Maharaj” and SonyLIV’s “Patna Shuklla” claimed the fourth and fifth spots respectively, each garnering 10.6 million and 9.8 million viewers.
As a film enthusiast, I’m always on the lookout for the latest and greatest shows to binge-watch. And let me tell you, JioCinema’s “Bigg Boss OTT” Season 3 has truly taken the Indian streaming scene by storm! With an impressive 17.8 million viewers tuning in, it’s no wonder this unscripted series claimed the number one spot.
As a devoted cinephile, I’m thrilled to share that among the Telugu-language shows, “B&B: Bujji and Bhairava,” the prequel animated series of Amazon Prime Video’s “Kalki 2898 AD,” captivated an impressive audience of 4.9 million viewers. Trailing closely was ETV Win’s “90’s – A Middle Class Biopic” with 3.8 million viewers. The top five were completed by Disney+ Hotstar’s “Miss Perfect,” ZEE5’s “Special Investigation Team,” and Aha’s “Bhamakalapam 2.”
In the realm of Tamil-language streaming content, “Inspector Rishi” on Prime Video drew in an impressive 4.9 million viewers. Hot on its heels was Disney+ Hotstar’s “Heart Beat,” which attracted 3.3 million viewers. The remaining spots in the top five were claimed by Disney+ Hotstar’s “Uppu Puli Kaaram,” JioCinema’s “Pon Ondru Kanden,” and SonyLIV’s “MasterChef India Tamil” Season 2, each boasting significant viewership numbers.
International content remained popular among Indian viewers, with “The Boys” Season 4 on Prime Video being watched by a massive 10.5 million people. JioCinema’s “House of the Dragon” Season 2 came in second place with 8.2 million viewers, and Prime Video’s “Fallout” claimed the third spot with 8 million viewers. Netflix’s “3 Body Problem” and “Bridgerton” Season 3 had impressive viewership numbers as well, with 6.9 million and 6.6 million viewers respectively.
The report brought attention to a show or film’s popularity among viewers through Ormax Power Ratings (OPR), a measurement from 0-100. In the Hindi-language series sector, “Panchayat” Season 3 remained first with an OPR of 77. Next came “Kota Factory” Seasons 3 and “The Legend Of Hanuman,” Seasons 3 and 4, each earning a score of 72. The top 5 were rounded out by “Gullak” Season 4 on SonyLIV and “Shark Tank India” Season 3 with scores of 67 and 63 respectively.
As a huge fan of Netflix’s Indian language films, I was thrilled to see the impressive viewership numbers for some of the recent releases. In Hindi, “Amar Singh Chamkila” took the lead with an impressive Opening Weekend Rating (OPR) of 64. Close behind were “Maharaj” and “Bhakshak,” both boasting OPRs of 62. The Telugu and Tamil films also shone, with “90’s – A Middle Class Biopic” dominating the former with an impressive OPR of 83, while “Inspector Rishi” topped the Tamil charts at 64.
As a devoted cinema enthusiast, I’m always excited to discover new shows that leave a lasting impression. In the international category, the second season of “House of the Dragon” on OPR took the crown with an impressive score of 72 points from me. Hot on its heels were Prime Video’s “The Boys” Season 4 and Netflix’s “Avatar: The Last Airbender,” which both earned a respectable 68 points each in my book. Rounding out the top five were Netflix’s “Spaceman” with 62 points and Prime Video’s “Invincible” Season 2, which garnered 61 points. Each of these shows brought unique storytelling and captivating performances that truly resonated with me.
