Prime Video is releasing a new spy thriller this weekend that’s sure to keep you guessing. Spy shows have become incredibly popular on streaming services lately, with hits like Slow Horses, The Night Agent, and The Agency leading the way.
The spy genre has seen a resurgence recently with successful movies both in cinemas and on streaming platforms. Films like Michael Fassbender’s Black Bag and the latest Mission: Impossible movies starring Tom Cruise have been popular. Now, a new original film on Prime Video is also gaining traction with audiences.
Prime Video’s New Spy Thriller Is A Streaming Hit
The Spanish spy thriller, Agent Zeta, premiered on Prime Video on March 20th. Despite being available for less than a week, it’s quickly become a hit around the world. FlixPatrol reports that it’s currently the second most-watched movie on Prime Video globally.
Currently, the movie Agent Zeta is performing exceptionally well on Prime Video, topping the charts as the #1 film in 25 countries and trending in a total of 49. The only movie to have outperformed it globally on the platform is the sci-fi thriller Mercy, which was released on March 22nd. While it isn’t as popular in the United States, Agent Zeta is a hit internationally.
Why Prime Video’s Agent Zeta Is Worth Watching
Because Agent Zeta has been a hit around the world but hasn’t yet caught on in the US, it’s currently a great movie to discover on the platform. This Spanish thriller stars Mario Casas as the titular agent, tasked with solving the puzzling simultaneous murders of four former Spanish spies who all worked on the same mission.
Zeta needs to locate someone who lived through a series of events to uncover the killer and their motives. The new Prime Video movie builds tension around this search, using flashbacks to reveal what happened previously and how it connects to Zeta’s present-day investigation. If you enjoy stories that jump between different time periods, this movie uses that technique heavily.
Zeta and Mariela Garriga’s character, Alfa, who works for the Colombian government, have a playful competition. Their constant attempts to outdo each other during their separate investigations make the movie more exciting. As of now, reviews and audience scores for Agent Zeta haven’t been released on Rotten Tomatoes. However, the film is proving popular with viewers on streaming platforms, suggesting it’s worth watching.
