HBO has released a first glimpse of its upcoming Harry Potter TV series, showcasing the new cast and setting at Hogwarts. The show is confirmed to premiere in 2026.
The series introduces a fresh cast, with Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton, and Alastair Stout taking on the roles of the wizard, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley. The plan is to cover each book in the series with a new season over the next ten years.
HBO began filming the new Harry Potter series at Leavesden Studios in London in July 2025. Though fans have caught a few sneak peeks through sources like Apple Maps and a drone video, the production has largely been kept secret—until recently.
The studio shared that a first teaser was coming soon, along with a photo of Louis Hynes as Harry Potter in his Quidditch uniform, giving fans a preview of the series. The new footage then revealed the first glimpses of the updated Hogwarts castle and the beginnings of Harry’s friendships with Ron and Hermione.

The series begins by showing a young Harry facing bullying at a regular school, with his Aunt Petunia urging him to blend in. He then encounters Hagrid and begins his journey to Hogwarts, which looks and feels quite similar to the Hogwarts we remember from the original movies, including the uniforms.
Many fans have wondered how HBO’s new Harry Potter series will compare to the original films with Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint. The trailer indicates the show will strike a balance – offering a familiar feel while also exploring new stories and ideas.
The upcoming series will feature several well-known actors, including John Lithgow as Professor Dumbledore and Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall. Paapa Essiedu, known for his role in Gangs of London, will portray Professor Severus Snape, a casting choice that unfortunately led to negative reactions and online harassment of the actor.
