Prime Video Taps Nicole Clemens to Lead International Originals

Starting on July 7th, Nicole Clemens will be taking over as the Vice President and Head of International Originals for both Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios.

The appointment was announced by Kelly Day, VP of Prime Video International.

Clemens transitions to Amazon’s Prime Video from Paramount Television Studios, having held the position of president there. In this role, she was responsible for supervising the creation and filming of various popular series that have been broadcast on Prime Video, such as “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan,” “Reacher,” and “Cross.” During her time at Paramount, she also served as the president of original scripted series for Paramount+, contributing to the development of their streaming platform’s strategic plan during its launch.

Nicole is a well-regarded and seasoned media professional,” Day stated in an internal communication to the Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios staff, as observed by EbMaster. “I’m thrilled to reveal that she will be joining us to head our international original teams, where she will further strengthen the remarkable achievements we’ve made with global viewers.

Stepping into a new leadership position, I’ll be responsible for orchestrating the creation and production of unique films and shows spanning over 20 international regions, catering to Prime Video’s expansive global viewer base of over 200 million Prime members. My responsibilities extend across Europe, Latin America, and Asia Pacific, as I guide teams in these diverse territories.

The meeting is crucial as it pertains to a critical juncture in Prime Video’s global content planning. As per Day’s declaration, the platform churned out over 140 original series and films internationally, spread across more than 20 regions last year, which represents their most productive year so far.

Initially, Clemens will join Amazon MGM Studios at their Culver City headquarters. Later, she’ll move to the Prime Video office in London. Her team, which includes Javiera Balmaceda (head of international originals for Latin America, Canada, and Australia), Tara Erer (head of international originals for Northern Europe), Nicole Morganti (head of international originals for Southern Europe), and John Holmes (director of international originals production and post) will report directly to her.

Nikhil Madhok (the head of international original content in India) will carry on reporting to Gaurav Gandhi (Vice President of Prime Video for APAC and MENA regions). He will remain a part of Clemens’ management team. Additionally, Marc Hausmaninger (head of content strategy for international originals) and Sam Semon (head of international business affairs) will also aid the division.

Before joining Paramount, Clemens had a rich career in television production and development that spanned over five years. During this time, she held the position of Executive Vice President and Head of Series Development at FX Networks. In this role, she was responsible for supervising the creation of original series such as “Snowfall,” “Atlanta,” “Better Things,” “You’re the Worst,” “Man Seeking Woman,” “Married,” “Baskets,” “Tyrant,” “Mayans M.C.,” and “The Strain.

In her professional journey, Clemens previously held a partnership role and led the Motion Picture Literary Department at ICM Partners for 16 years. She also occupied executive positions at Rod Holcomb Productions and Spelling Television. Currently, she sits on the board of directors for the Motion Picture Television Fund, and has been highlighted in influential industry lists such as the EbMaster Woman’s Impact Report and the EbMaster 2023 list.

Under Clemens’ guidance at Paramount Television Studios, the company churned out a multitude of critically acclaimed television shows. These included “Station Eleven” for HBO Max (earning seven Emmy nominations), “The Offer” for Paramount+, Chris Evans’ “Defending Jacob,” “Home Before Dark”, and “Shantaram” for Apple TV+, the Netflix anthology series “The Haunting”, and George Clooney’s “Catch-22” for Hulu. Additionally, Clemens oversaw global franchises for Paramount+, such as “Halo” and various “Star Trek” series like “Strange New Worlds,” “Picard,” and “Discovery.” She also managed shows like “SEAL Team,” “Evil,” “The Good Fight,” “Rabbit Hole,” and “Criminal Minds: Evolution.

Amazon Prime Video’s global collection features the third part of Mercedes Ron’s Culpables trilogy (“Culpa Nuestra” from Spain), as well as new seasons of popular shows like “Maxton Hall” (Germany), “La Reina Roja” (Spain), “Betty en Nyorke” (Colombia), along with “Newtopia” (Korea), “Superboys of Malegaon” (India), “Graduation Trip: Mallorca” (Spain), and “Costiera” (Italy).
