Prime Video Raises Ad-Free Tier With New Ultra Subscription

Prime Video has become a leading streaming service over the past decade and a half, going head-to-head with popular platforms like Disney+, Hulu, and HBO Max. Starting as Amazon Unbox in 2006, it was later renamed Amazon Prime Video in 2011 and simply Prime Video in 2018. The service began creating its own original shows in 2013, and many of those programs are now considered some of the best in entertainment.

Like most streaming services, Prime Video has different subscription options – some with ads, some without, and varying video quality. But with Amazon Prime, you get more than just movies and shows! It’s bundled with perks like faster shipping, discounts on other Amazon purchases, access to Amazon Music, and even a free Grubhub+ membership. And honestly, things just got even better for us Prime Video fans thanks to a recent update – it’s a really great time to be a subscriber!

Prime Video has updated its ad-free plan. Originally announced in March, the new plan, now called Prime Video Ultra, launched on April 10th. It costs $4.99 per month, or $45.99 for a year – saving viewers 23% if they choose the annual option.

As a total movie buff, I’m really excited about the new Ultra plan! Not only will it be completely free of ads – a huge win! – but the picture quality is going to be incredible with 4K Ultra High Definition. That’s four times the detail of regular HD! And the sound? They’re using Dolby Atmos, which means a truly immersive, cinematic experience right in my living room. Plus, with all the streaming services cracking down on password sharing, it’s great that this plan lets me stream on five devices at once, up from just three. And the best part? I can download up to 100 shows and movies for offline viewing – way more than the 25 they used to allow. Perfect for travel!

Prime Video is releasing new content at a perfect time for fans, with the first two episodes of The Boys Season 5 now available. This will be the final season of the popular superhero series, and it’s already delivering shocking moments – including a major character death in the first episode. Expect even bigger and more dramatic events as the story wraps up for stars like Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, and Antony Starr.

Fans are eagerly awaiting the fourth season of Alan Ritchson’s popular Reacher series on Prime Video. This season will adapt Lee Child’s novel, Gone Tomorrow, and follows Reacher as he uncovers a dangerous conspiracy in New York City involving a possible suicide bomber. In addition to Reacher, Maria Sten, who played Neagley, is getting her own spin-off series, though details are still under wraps. These shows represent just a fraction of Prime Video’s offerings, and this expanded content should be a big hit for viewers looking to explore everything the streaming service has to offer.

The Prime Video Ultra plan is now available for $4.99/month or $45.99/year.
