It looks like Prime Video might be ending the series. After cancelling the international versions, Honey Bunny and Diana, last year, the main series’ second season was quietly released with very little promotion.
The second season of Citadel became available on Prime Video yesterday, May 6th, with all seven episodes released at once. Even though Prime Video didn’t heavily promote the new season, viewers quickly noticed its return. The show has already climbed into the Top 10 TV shows globally, landing at number two in the U.S.
Citadel Returns After 3 Years
It’s been almost three years since the first season of Citadel finished airing on Prime Video. While the show was made by the Russo Brothers and starred a talented cast, it received a mixed reaction from critics and was incredibly costly – around $300 million – making it one of Prime Video’s most expensive productions.
Despite initial reports, Citadel performed very well on Prime Video. It quickly became one of the most popular new original series globally, ranking second outside the U.S. and fourth worldwide upon its release. Because of this success, Prime Video initially planned to create several international spin-off series.
Only two films, Diana (for Italy) and Honey Bunny (for India), were actually released. Both became available on Prime Video in 2024. Originally, plans called for removing them in March 2025, potentially permanently, until the second season was released. However, because the second season is already performing well after only one day, Prime Video might reconsider removing the films.
Mason Kane & Nadia Sinh Are Back in Citadel Season 2
The series Citadel is named after a top-secret spy agency that was taken down by Manticore, a shadowy and influential organization controlling events from behind the scenes. When Citadel fell, its best agents, Mason Kane (Richard Madden) and Nadia Sinh (Priyanka Chopra Jonas), barely survived by having their memories erased.
During the first season, Mason is found by an old coworker, Bernard Orlick (Stanley Tucci), who urgently needs his assistance to prevent a powerful organization called Manticore from taking control of the world. Mason then teams up with his ex-partner, Nadia, and together they travel the globe on a dangerous mission to stop Manticore’s plans.
Season two of the thrilling spy series continues the story of Mason Kane, Nadia Sinh, and Bernard Orlick. This time, they’re forced back into action and must assemble a new team of talented operatives. Together, they embark on a worldwide mission to uncover a dangerous plot that could change the future of humankind. Expect even bigger action sequences, surprising twists, and a larger cast of intriguing characters, where no one can be fully trusted, according to the season’s description.
Both seasons of Citadel are now available to stream on Prime Video.
