The sudden color change of a Power Ranger, a notable event in the franchise, has been a source of discussion due to its impact on the show’s continuity. Despite the numerous seasons of Power Rangers, it is surprising that the series managed to maintain a relatively consistent universe with almost every team existing within the same storyline. However, the show is riddled with plot inconsistencies and lore inaccuracies.
Certainly, it’s understandable that a children’s TV series which features a fresh theme and adapts a distinct Super Sentai series for each season might not delve too deeply into its backstory. Following the “Power Rangers in Space,” the subsequent seasons of the show were structured so that viewers didn’t need to have watched the previous episodes to follow along. Yet, despite this approach, the franchise has always incorporated crossovers and strived for continuity. However, even with these efforts, the season titled “Super Megaforce” failed to provide a clear response to a question that should not have been complicated.
Gosei’s “Simple Explanation” Line Illustrates The Problems With Power Rangers Lore
What Was The Explanation After All?
In the television series called “Power Rangers Megaforce,” the primary team comprised five Rangers, one of whom was Jake, known as the Black Ranger. The show was loosely based on the Japanese series “Tensou Sentai Goseiger,” which featured a trading card theme. However, when “Megaforce” progressed into its second season, it transitioned to another “Super Sentai” series, specifically “Gokaiger.” Interestingly, the pirate theme from “Gokaiger” didn’t align with the themes or visuals of “Goseiger,” and to add to the confusion, the color scheme of the Power Rangers changed. Notably, most Megaforce Rangers retained their original colors, but unlike before, there was no Black Ranger in “Gokaiger.
Character | Megaforce Form | Super Megaforce Form |
---|---|---|
Troy Burrows | Red Ranger | Red Ranger |
Emma Goodall | Pink Ranger | Pink Ranger |
Jake Holling | Black Ranger | Green Ranger |
Noah Carver | Blue Ranger | Blue Ranger |
Gia Moran | Yellow Ranger | Yellow Ranger |
Due to their new costumes, Jake transformed into the Green Ranger, initially intended as a power-up rather than a change in abilities within the show. When the Power Rangers asked about Jake’s new color, Gosei, their leader, mentioned there was a “simple explanation.” Unfortunately, that explanation remained unexplained because the episode abruptly switched to another scene without revealing it. This moment from Power Rangers is one of its most amusingly unintentional comedic scenes.
Thinking About How The Morphin Grid Works In Power Rangers Makes My Brain Hurt
The Morphin Grid Solves A Lot Of Problems In Power Rangers
As a dedicated fan of the Power Rangers franchise, I find myself often lost in thought, attempting to piece together a universe that seems to defy its own established laws. Analyzing the intricacies of Power Rangers can be quite challenging, given the vast array of teams and shows it encompasses. In recent times, the Morphin Grid has become a go-to, convenient solution for almost every question regarding Power Rangers lore. Although the Grid was initially introduced in the early days of the series, contemporary stories across all media platforms heavily depend on this omnipotent, enigmatic grid that links all Rangers together.
In the series “Cosmic Fury”, Billy implies that Amelia became the Red Ranger because the Morphin Grid selected her. Essentially, this was a way for the story to explain why Amelia switched from Pink to Red after the team received new morphers. If I were to rephrase it in a more straightforward manner, it would be: “Billy suggests that Amelia became the Red Ranger because the Morphin Grid chose her.”
In retrospect, a direct statement such as “because the Morphin Grid wanted to” would have been clearer for Jake’s color change compared to what was presented in the story. I often find myself wishing that “Power Rangers” had more consistent rules and didn’t rely on the enigmatic nature of the Morphin Grid to fill in plot gaps.
In the rumor that Disney+ is developing a new Power Rangers series, there’s an opportunity for the franchise to rejuvenate its storyline and tidy up the narrative. Since this potential show might not be a continuation of “Cosmic Fury”, Disney+’s Power Rangers could create a fresh universe with fewer inconsistencies and complexities. I’m excited to see aspects from the comics like the Emissaries, the backstory of the Morphin Master, and other elements that can offer straightforward explanations for various aspects in the Power Rangers universe.
