Post-apocalyptic survival game makes zombies a little less scary. NPCs and trading may soon hit Project Zomboid

The team behind Project Zomboid continues to push forward with updates; the latest addition is the 42.7.0 update for the experimental build 42.

This update enhances the gameplay experience, adjusts balancing aspects, and expands the crafting system in significant ways. It introduces new items and recipes to keep players engaged and exploring.

Crafting

One significant feature of the latest update is the introduction of various clothing pieces that can be created using materials such as leather, denim, scraps, or tarpaulins. In this game, you’ll also discover a punk fashion magazine, which will teach you how to create a dress from garbage bags. There are numerous new recipes in total, and they extend beyond just clothing items.

Another point worth noting is that there could potentially be the creation of gold and silver coins, although their current relevance within the game seems minimal. These coins might hint at more significant developments to come in the future – whether it’s new trading options, interactions with NPCs, or a shift in the game dynamics, only time will reveal the answers.

Interface and control improvements

This update brings numerous upgrades to the user interface and control mechanisms, especially beneficial for those utilizing a controller. For instance, it streamlines tasks like watering, harvesting, or treating plants during plant cultivation and offers helpful on-screen prompts. Additionally, it enhances crafting experiences by incorporating features such as element highlighting within the crafting window and offering more ways to engage with the ingredient list.

Details that make a difference

In a fresh update for the less stable version of “Project Zomboid,” some minor enhancements have been made, primarily focusing on refining the game environment with subtle yet crucial details. Now, when zombies are lying motionless (or rather feigning death), they exhibit visible chest movements, making it easier for players to discern whether these undead creatures are merely pretending to be deceased. Additionally, there’s a new sound for broken mesh fences and novel audio cues for quartered hunted animals have been incorporated into the game.

Additionally, it’s worth mentioning that the traditional dome-shaped smelting furnace has been reintroduced, enabling the manufacture of coke from charcoal – an essential ingredient in the process of making steel.

Changes in balance

As a passionate player, I’ve noticed some exciting updates that have made blacksmithing more accessible! Previously complex recipes now require less skill, making it easier for beginners to craft basic tools (previously requiring level 4, now just level 1). The weight of certain weapons has been reduced, and the combat parameters for specific clothing sets, like chest rigs, have been refined. Moreover, a larger number of items can now be melted down into various resources, providing more versatility in resource management.

It appears that Project 42 is nearing completion, as suggested by the developers’ shift in focus from groundbreaking innovations towards refining details and enhancing existing content.

As a fellow gamer, I’ve got some exciting news! If you’re keen to get your hands on the beta version of the latest Build 42 update, head over to the game’s Steam page.
