Porsche & BMW destroyed in fiery Nurburgring crash caught on video

The intense collision between a Porsche GT3 RS and a BMW M2 Competition, happening on the Nürburgring track, gained widespread attention due to the thrilling videos filmed from various perspectives which were subsequently spread online. Remarkably, both drivers walked away unscathed.

On July 5th, an event occurred during one of the Tourist Laps (Touristfahrten) events. These special occasions allow people to drive their personal cars on the 12.9-mile Nordschleife track for a fee. This activity is accessible to any driver and vehicle, resulting in differences in speed and expertise among participants.

In a popular video clip, a speedy Porsche is shown closing in on a more leisurely British-plated BMW along a tight part of the race track. As the Porsche tries to pass on a slight bend, it seems like the BMW moves towards its path, causing a severe crash.

In the heat of the game, I somehow crash my Porsche into the barriers, only to be hit again by the BMW, causing an explosive blast and devastating damage to both our vehicles. Scattered across the track were remnants of our cars, with a front suspension piece from my Porsche discovered an astonishing 30 meters away.

The drivers apparently escaped serious injury from the accident, although their vehicles were severely damaged beyond recognition.

Because the Nürburgring is a special toll road where regular car insurance often doesn’t apply, drivers may have to pay for all repair or replacement costs themselves if an accident occurs. Furthermore, they could be charged extra for any damage caused to the safety barriers on the track.

Online responses have varied, with some people accusing the BMW driver of improper lane changes, encroaching on the Porsche’s space, while others believe the Porsche driver showed excessive aggression in a non-racing, public driving setting.

In response to the incident at the Nurburgring, a commenter posted, “Indeed, the BMW shouldn’t have moved left, but if someone believes that the GT3RS isn’t partially responsible for racing and overtaking in such areas during [Touristfahrten], they themselves are contributing to the problem.
