Popular Star Wars: Starfighter Rumor Debunked by Writer

There was a recent rumor about a new Star Wars: Starfighter movie, but the writer has confirmed it’s not true.

What Star Wars: Starfighter rumor was recently debunked?

Recently, a popular rumor started spreading that a major character will make a surprise appearance at the end of the new Starfighter movie. Fans have been guessing who it might be, and many believe it could be Rey Skywalker, played by Daisy Ridley.

Despite rumors, writer Jonathan Tropper has confirmed that the upcoming series, Starfighter, will feature a completely original cast and story, with no returning characters from previous Star Wars films. He clarified this in an interview with ScreenRant.

When asked about rumors of a lightsaber duel in the film, Tropper confirmed lightsabers are definitely part of the Star Wars universe. He was careful not to give away any spoilers, but emphasized the movie won’t feature any returning characters from previous films. He did suggest that including iconic Star Wars elements, like lightsabers, is important, but he couldn’t say much more.

The upcoming Star Wars film, Starfighter, will be set around five years after the events of ‘The Rise of Skywalker,’ released in 2019. Director Levy describes it as a completely new story – not a prequel or sequel – and taking place in a previously unexplored era of the Star Wars universe.

Lucasfilm has announced that the new Star Wars movie, Starfighter, will hit U.S. theaters on May 28, 2027. Currently, the only other Star Wars film scheduled for a theatrical release is The Mandalorian and Grogu, coming out on May 22, 2026 – about a year before Starfighter.
