Watermelon Pictures Takes Control of U.S. Distribution for the Documentary “Sudan, Remember Us,” as per an exclusive report by EbMaster.
The agreement comes after the movie’s debut at the Venice Film Festival, showings at the Toronto International Film Festival, and screenings at DOC NYC. Directed by Hind Meddeb, “Sudan, Remember Us” explores resistance movements in the Arab world following the 2019 Sudanese revolution. Through her lens, Meddeb documents artists, activists, and a youth-led movement, showcasing how the country sadly plunged back into conflict, as per an official summary.
Watermelon Pictures’ co-founder Hamza Ali expressed, in a statement, that Hind Meddeb’s urgent and defiant portrayal of Sudan’s innovative and revolutionary youth is precisely the type of bold storytelling we strive to support.
In his review of “EbMaster” at TIFF, critic Murtada Elfadl portrayed the film as an insightful and compassionate exploration of how collective optimism can inspire an entire generation. He further praised the cinematography, noting that the camera was sensitive to the settings, thereby highlighting Khartoum’s unique identity as a city steeped in history that cultivated these intelligent, articulate individuals.
The movie is jointly produced by Echo Films and Blue Train Films, and additionally co-produced by My Way Production Tounès. The producers are Abel Nahmias, Michel Zana, Alice Ormières, and Taoufik Guiga who acts as a co-producer.
Established in April 2024, Palestinian-owned Watermelon Pictures has so far unveiled the Oscar-nominated “From Ground Zero”, the political drama “The Teacher”, and the topical documentary “The Encampments” in cinemas.
The agreement for the acquisition was finalized by Hamza Ali representing Watermelon Pictures and Margot Hervée standing in for Totem Films. This summer in North America, the film “Sudan, Remember Us” will be screened in cinemas.
