Police ticket Jack Doherty for using phone while driving in $200K McLaren crash

As a gamer with a decade-long obsession with YouTube content creators, I must say that watching Jack Doherty‘s rollercoaster ride is nothing short of exhilarating, albeit a tad worrying. From his lavish lifestyle showcased through his luxury car collection to his questionable driving skills, it seems like the man can’t seem to catch a break.

A few days following his ban from Kick, after an accident involving his $200k McLaren, Jack Doherty received a traffic citation for utilizing his mobile device while operating a vehicle.

On October 5, 2024, while live-streaming an IRL event, Jack Doherty was at the wheel of his McLaren 520s, a luxury car worth $200,000, on a wet highway. Unfortunately, he lost control of the supercar.

Following a car accident on the road where he collided with a guard rail after skidding, resulting in a complete wreck of his vehicle, Doherty was permanently forbidden from participating in Kick.

swiftly drew responses from some prominent internet figures, as xQc labeled the influencer “devoid of brains” and 100 Thieves’ founder, Nadeshot, suggested imprisonment for him.

After the car accident became widely known online, many people speculated whether Jack might have some legal troubles. However, as shown in a video released on October 14th, it appears that a police officer visited Jack’s home and issued him a traffic citation directly.

The reference pertains to “wireless communication during driving,” and the Florida Highway Patrol deputy clarified that the reason for the citation was due to the popular videos about this topic circulating on social media platforms.

(Topic starts at 0:59 in the video)

Instead, Jack argued that the video was edited and asserted that he wasn’t using his phone during the time of the accident.

He stated that they divided the video, but he hadn’t been using his phone at the time. He possesses the unedited footage, not having been preoccupied with his phone. In a way, it seems like “innocent until proven guilty” is applicable in this situation.

After being barred from Kick, Doherty has shifted his live-stream activities to Twitch. However, he’s only streamed a handful of times since the move, with each session running for just a short while.

He’s continued uploading on his YouTube channels too, where he has 14M subscribers on his main channel and just over 1M on another.

During a Saturday Night Live episode on October 12, the YouTuber’s viral crash was humorously referenced by comedian Colin Jost in his report about the incident.
