Police searching for ‘Scooby-Doo’ after store robbery mystery

Law enforcement officials in Alabama are seeking assistance from the community to identify a potential culprit who burglarized a local store, disguised as the cartoon character Scooby-Doo.

On June 22nd, at approximately 3:45 AM, an unusual and widely shared incident occurred at the Quick Stop located along Highway 82. This event unfolded when authorities arrived in response to an activated alarm system.

The security camera recording captures an individual dressed entirely as Scooby-Doo and wearing a balaclava, who is seen entering the shop and filling a large bag with money and coins.

Scooby-Doo wanted after real-life mystery

While the iconic cartoon dog is usually solving mysteries, this time he is the mystery.

Hello everyone! We’re counting on you to assist us in unraveling a puzzle. An intriguing character dressed as Scooby-Doo was reportedly caught attempting to enter the Quick Stop convenience store located on Highway 82 in Duncanville, according to the Tuscaloosa Police Department, who shared photos of the suspect on their Facebook page.

Law enforcement officers were called to the shop following an activation of the security system at approximately 3:45 AM on Sunday. The individual in question made off with money and change, but did not take any snack items. He seems to be a Caucasian male, standing around 5 feet 9 inches tall.

Afterward, they posted a picture of the Mystery Machine, mentioning, “We’ve interrogated the vehicle’s owners, but no substantial clues found so far. Keep your eyes peeled for suspicious guardians and avoid getting involved if you spot the suspect.

The fugitive has yet to be captured, but there’s a jovial atmosphere in the city, as evidenced by local radio personalities, 953 BEAR’s Steve & DC, who announced a Panama City Beach vacation for anyone dressing up as Scooby Doo. An 8-year-old boy emerged victorious and claimed the vacation.

In 2025, it’s not the first instance of a costumed thief becoming popular online. Earlier in March, an individual impersonating Spider-Man was apprehended following a theft valued at more than $10,000 from a Virginia store specializing in collectible cards like Pokemon and Dragon Ball.

In the year 2023, a physical altercation involving Mario, Spider-Man, Black Panther, and other individuals broke out and gained widespread attention online, stemming from a disagreement among costume-wearing staff members at a popular tourist spot in Brazil.

Anyone with information on the Scooby-Doo bandit is urged to contact the Tuscaloosa Police.
