Police hunt hammer-wielding Pokemon card thieves on crime spree

Law enforcement officials are actively searching for a pair of individuals, armed with hammers, who made off with a significant amount (thousands of dollars) of valuable Pokemon cards from two separate retail outlets.

With the rise of Pokemon card collecting, Pokemon crimes have become increasingly common.

We’ve witnessed various instances such as intense police pursuits, dealers being held up with guns, and heated arguments about valuable Pokemon cards.

Currently, groups of individuals armed with hammers are causing a stir within the Pokemon community following their break-ins at several retail outlets.

Thieves hit Michigan game stores for Pokemon cards

On May 16, two masked crooks dressed in black broke into RIW Hobbies & Gaming in Livonia, Michigan.

At five in the morning, surveillance cameras recorded the pair breaking open display cases and snatching numerous valuable Pokémon cards, which they then stuffed into bags.

Upon opening the store later that morning, the owner, Pam Willoughby, was shocked at its condition.

She shared with WXYZ that seeing individuals stand alone in the building, wielding hammers, was somewhat unsettling – it felt intrusive to her. Furthermore, she estimated that the combined expenses for the damaged cards and necessary repairs would amount to a significant cost of approximately $12,000.

Despite managing to collect most of the cards, the pair accidentally left behind a Charizard as they exited. This is what Willoughby pointed out, noting their careless haste.

Regrettably, it seemed that Team Rocket’s actions weren’t confined to a single site, for another incident occurred only four days after the first. This time, an individual armed with a hammer and dressed similarly to the previous crew managed to force entry at Eternal Games.

This time, the thief leapt over a display case, put cards into a sack, and fled the scene.

Dakota Olszewski, assistant manager at Eternal Games, asserted that a thief made off with approximately $3,500 worth of valuable individual cards.

The search is currently underway for these two individuals, who are now wanted, as they join a series of past incidents involving the misuse of Pokémon cards.

2022 saw a man’s prized $500,000 collection vanish from his waterfront home, and unfortunately, he is still waiting for the return of these treasured items.
