Whodunnit in Poker Face Season 2 Episode 3?

In the third episode of the new season, FBI agent Luca (Simon Helberg), who reappears from last season, unintentionally kills Beatrix’s husband Jeffrey. The twist is that the bullets Luca used were swapped with live ammunition by the corrupt FBI agent Daniel, causing the fatal mistake.

In a storyline reminiscent of the Hong Kong crime thriller Infernal Affairs, later reworked by Martin Scorsese into The Departed, Jeffrey operates as Luca’s spy within the criminal organization, while Danny functions as Beatrix’s informant within the FBI. Just like in the films, neither character is aware of the other’s true identity.

In an attempt to join the Witness Protection Program, Jeffrey conspires with Luca to stage his own death. Unfortunately for Jeffrey, however, Daniel’s clever trick makes Jeff’s demise a genuine one.

What is Danny’s motive?

Danny facilitates Jeffrey’s murder to keep his criminal wrongdoing a secret.

For quite some time, he’s been employed by Beatrix, consistently supplying her with data to ensure a mobster avoids prison. However, upon Hasp inviting Charlie into the inner circle to detect potential informants among them, his anxiety arises unexpectedly.

Following Jeffrey’s passing, it won’t be long before Danny can point out that Luca, Beatrix, and Charlie are all traveling together by airplane. This situation makes it almost inevitable that he will implicate them somehow.

How does Danny get caught?

Luca discovers that Danny is the informant after Charlie recalls observing him drinking milk. This habit is due to an ulcer Danny developed while working for Beatrix, a fact known to be unusual among their group since most don’t drink milk regularly.

In this particular episode, Charlie seldom employs her lie detector. Conversely, it’s Danny who is exposed when he clandestinely boards the aircraft. Subsequently, a heated argument among the four main characters escalates into a physical altercation that culminates in Danny’s apprehension by authorities.

The story ends with Beatrix deciding to inform on someone in order to receive protection from witnesses. Meanwhile, free of Hasp’s henchmen chasing her, Charlie has the opportunity to begin anew. The upcoming Episode 4 marks a fresh start for Charlie as it will be the first installment of Poker Face where she won’t have to keep running away from someone.
