It appears that, contrary to what many had anticipated, collectors of the Pokemon Trading Card Game are currently in a situation where theyâre reliant on resellers (scalpers) for the upcoming collection âDestined Rivals,â which wonât be released until two months from now.
Starting from May 30th, the new expansion, focusing on Giovanniâs villainous Team Rocket, will be available for purchase at stores across North America and Europe. Pre-orders became live on March 24th, but due to high demand, many have been left in a constant queue, unable to secure the product at its recommended retail price.
As a fellow enthusiast, I canât help but notice the mixed emotions flooding social media spaces like ours, Twitter. On one hand, thereâs jubilation from those whoâve successfully grabbed their packs. But on the other, thereâs disappointment and frustration echoing from those whoâve been struggling to navigate the Pokemon Center website.
Itâs still uncertain if a particular stock will hold out past the initial hours or days, but thereâs no question that scalpers and resellers have acquired the product and are now employing their typical strategies.
Destined Rivals scalpers have already appeared on eBay
In just a few minutes after the pre-sale began, both Destined Rivals booster boxes and Elite Trainer Boxes popped up on eBay with significantly higher prices than their original cost.
Certain listings have been purchased by customers, with Exchangeable Trading Blisters (ETBs) selling for amounts ranging from $200 to $300. However, the Manufacturerâs Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) for a typical ETB, regardless of its associated set, is $49.99.

Just like regular listings, youâll find Booster Boxes being sold at prices that can reach as high as $390, which is significantly more than their original retail price of around $140.
The duration these prices will stay high is uncertain, but given that Prismatic Evolutions from early 2025 are still fetching expensive prices even after Pokemonâs promise of reprints, we might have a while before excitement levels become more manageable.
Are you tired of constantly missing out on purchasing real-life Pokemon Trading Card Game (TCG) cards? Perhaps itâs worth considering switching over to the TCG Pocket app, despite the fact that it currently has some issues of its own.
