Pokemon TCG Pocket is getting beaten in revenue by a gacha game about hot guys

As a dedicated gamer, I’ve got to admit that Pokémon is a gaming juggernaut, raking in an unbelievable fortune from its games, films, and merchandise for decades. Yet, when it comes to the trading card game (TCG) Pocket in the gacha market, it doesn’t quite rule supreme.

In June, two games managed to surpass TCG Pocket’s revenue, and one of them isn’t really shocking: Genshin Impact. Despite being on the market for several years, Genshin Impact remains the ruler in the gacha game segment and consistently ranks high in monthly earnings. For June, it held the number one spot.

Instead of Pokemon TCG Pocket still holding its crown in May, another game called Love and Deepspace has emerged to claim the top spot: it’s a unique game centered around the concept of “taming” handsome, well-built, and sometimes partially undressed men (whose physiques some players are willing to pay extra for to uncover in the storyline).

In contrast to the gacha market’s predominant focus on games featuring women and female leads, Love and Deepspace demonstrates that there’s also an audience interested in male characters.

Love and Deepspace topples Pokemon TCG Pocket’s revenue

As a passionate admirer of gaming, I must say that unlike numerous gacha games which subtly incorporate romance and emphasize gameplay predominantly, Love and Deepspace proudly bills itself as a deeply immersive dating simulation experience.

Furthermore, not only does it boast 3D combat reminiscent of games such as Wuthering Waves and Genshin Impact, but its unique selling point lies in the fact that you constantly battle with your male companion and assume the role of a female protagonist throughout the game.

Despite not being as globally renowned as games like NIKKE, Hoyo Games, or Granblue Fantasy, this gacha game has proven to be hugely successful among its intended demographic, earning an impressive $56 million in June alone – a figure that even surpasses its earnings from May.

The statistics presented are sourced from GachaRevenue, which primarily focuses on mobile sales and lacks reliable methods for data collection from the Chinese market. Despite this limitation, Love and Deepspace stand out even more significantly because it enjoys immense popularity in China’s markets, and also boasts a PC client that serves as an additional income stream.

Due to this, it’s highly probable that it enjoys a significant advantage over Pokémon TCG Pocket, even though many people may not be familiar with it outside the realm of gacha games.

While the industry primarily caters to titles designed with a predominantly male audience in mind, there exists an untapped market on the opposite side that developers have yet to fully explore.
