Pokemon Scarlet & Violet: How to beat 7-Star Infernape Tera Raid

As a seasoned Trainer with decades of Pokémon battles under my belt, I must say that this strategy is as clever as a Fox Alola! The Toxapex and Iron Hands duo seems like a formidable pair to take down Infernape.

As a devoted Pokémon fan, I’m thrilled to share some strategies for taking down Infernape, the Fire/Fighting-type Starter from the Sinnoh region, who has just been announced as the latest 7-star Tera Raid boss in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. Here are my top picks for countering this Rock Tera Type creature:

Even though it’s been nearly two years since Pokemon Scarlet & Violet hit the shelves, Game Freak is still offering fresh experiences for players exploring Paldea by introducing rotating Tera Raids with a 7-star rating.

For this occasion, Infernape from Sinnoh is set to star as a powerful 7-star Raid opponent. Unlike previous instances, there won’t be any Mass Outbreak associated with it. Instead, you can expect Infernape to appear twice during the event. On the second instance, Blissey will join as a 5-star Tera Raid boss.

For trainers aiming to capture an Infernape from the Rock Tera Type in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet with the Strongest Emblem, here’s a look at its vulnerabilities and optimal counter choices:

When will Infernape appear in Tera Raids?

The Rock Tera Type Infernape Raid event in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet will take place from Thursday, October 3, 2024, at 5:00 PM Pacific Daylight Time, and continue until Sunday, October 6, 2024, at 4:59 PM Pacific Daylight Time.

Starting from Thursday, October 10, 2024, at 5:00 PM Pacific Daylight Time, and continuing until Sunday, October 13, 2024, at 4:59 PM PDT, the powerful Sinnoh Starter will make its comeback, this time accompanied by Blissey. During this period, the 5-star Tera Raid boss will feature multiple Tera Types.

It’s important to remember that you will only be able to catch one Infernape with the Mightiest Mark per save file, though you can challenge it as many times as you want to get plenty of rewards and farm the elusive Herba Mystica.

7-star Infernape moves, Tera Type, and Ability

While serving as a 7-star Raid Boss, Infernape bearing the Mark of Power will boast the Rock Tera Type. Given its status as an imposing boss, this Sinnoh primate will showcase impressive stats and an array of powerful moves. Consequently, if you aim to emerge victorious, you’ll need a well-thought-out strategy and a robust team at your disposal.

Infernape base stats

Infernape moves

As for the moveset of Infernape, it remains a mystery at this time. However, among its arsenal of attacks, there’s a chance that it could employ any of the following:

  • Drain Punch (Fighting)
  • Fire Punch (Fire)
  • Stone Edge (Rock)
  • Thunder Punch (Electric)
  • Acrobatics (Flying)
  • Close Combat (Fighting)
  • Ice Punch (Ice)
  • Bulk Up (Fighting)

As an Infernape, being a dual Fire and Fighting-type Pokemon, I’ll be vulnerable to Flying, Ground, Water, and Psychic-type moves. However, my Rock Tera Type gives me the disadvantage against Fighting, Ground, Steel, Water, and Grass attacks.

Because Infernape possesses an unseen strength known as Iron Fist, each of its punches will become more powerful. Thus, it’s important to watch out for the moves that Infernape uses.

When the Raid begins, it’s crucial to refrain from using Water, Ground, or Grass-type Pokémon if Infernape possesses Thunder Punch or Ice Punch.

Best Infernape 7-star Tera Raid counters

Here’s a helpful tip for you to conquer Rock Tera Type Infernape using The Most Powerful Seal: Below are some effective counter options:

Quagsire

With both Water and Ground attributes, Quagsire is able to withstand attacks from Fire-type Pokemon like Infernape. Moreover, should the opposing Pokemon possess Thunder Punch, Quagsire’s secondary Ground type provides immunity to Electric attacks.

Unawareness gives Quagsire the knack of disregarding any modifications to its stats caused by Infernape. So, even if Infernape employs a move like Bulk Up, the enhanced Attack and Defense won’t be felt by Quagsire.

Kick off the fight by employing a “Rain Dance” to weaken Fire-type attacks while boosting Water ones. Next, strike Infernape using “Mud Slap” to cause harm and reduce its accuracy. Carry on with an “Earth Power” attack to lower your opponent’s Defense, and finally, end the fight with a “Liquidation” to deal substantial damage and further decrease its Defense stat.

Toxapex

Toxapex boasts a remarkably strong Defense, and since it’s a Poison/Water Pokémon, it is immune to Infernape’s Fire and Fighting attacks due to type advantages.

The secret behind Toxapex lies in its role as a backup. Begin by casting Rain Dance, which weakens Infernape’s Fire-based attacks and boosts Water-type ones. Follow up with Acid Spray to inflict damage and significantly reduce Infernape’s Special Defense. Proceed with Chilling Water to lower the opponent’s physical attack power.

To stay alive, opt for Revival to replenish your Health Points. Moreover, since Toxapex is a Poison-type Pokémon, it will slowly heal itself with the help of the held item Black Sludge.

Iron Hands

If Infernape doesn’t possess the move “Acrobatics”, it’s generally fine to employ “Iron Hands” since this move exploits Infernape’s vulnerability to Fighting-type attacks. Moreover, Infernape is among the top-tier choices for Raids thanks to its powerful combo of “Belly Drum” and “Drain Punch”.

Using Electric Terrain as a move, Iron Hand’s primary skill (Attack) will receive an enhancement thanks to its Quark Drive ability.

Shift your attention to amplifying the probability of a Critical strike. After that, unleash the Belly Drum ability to intensify Iron Hands’ Attack and attack Infernape with the Drain Punch move. This move not only inflicts damage but also recovers some health due to the Belly Drum. The more you repeatedly use Drain Punch, the stronger it becomes, especially when equipped with the Metronome item.

Can 7-star Tera Raid Infernape be Shiny?

As a dedicated fan, I’ve got some news that might disappoint us both: the Shiny version of Rock Tera Type Infernape with the Mightiest Mark isn’t available in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. This is consistent with past 7-star Raid bosses, where catching the Shiny variant hasn’t been an option.

Players who manage to capture this Pokemon could attempt to secure a Shiny variant by breeding it, with the Masuda Method enhancing their chances of success.
