Pokemon players are not impressed with how it looks on Switch 2

The popular game, Pokemon, has transitioned to the Nintendo Switch 2 as one of its initial compatible titles; however, these versions have not garnered the positive response that Nintendo had anticipated.

Currently, Pokemon games don’t boast the same graphical prowess as games like God of War or Death Stranding 2, but this is intentional. The simpler, more cartoonish visuals evoke a powerful sense of nostalgia, moving beyond their initial 8-bit look.

Thinking about the upcoming Switch 2 with its potential 1080p screen or 4k capabilities when docked, one might anticipate significant enhancements in the familiar Pokemon games. However, according to enthusiasts of the series, these upgrades may not meet your expectations as you might imagine.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet slammed as “beta footage” on Switch 2

When someone posted a screenshot of Pokemon Scarlet & Violet on Reddit, making a humorous comment that “Pokemon looks amazing on the Switch 2,” thousands of fans quickly criticized the graphics port, with many expressing surprise and concern that a game released in 2022 could appear to be from 2009.

Multiple people started making light of the game’s apparent age when played on the latest console, humorously comparing it to early development footage of an unpublished Nintendo GameCube title.

Many people shared similar thoughts, remarking: “It appears this could be an independent Pokemon game created by one person working from their home with limited spare time and no previous programming background.

It’s intriguing to note that after a player made a witty comment about the game looking like hidden geometry only visible through glitches, other players started responding by pointing out various glitches and joking that there will be ample chances to glitch through the ground and explore unique perspectives in this game!

Indeed, as previously discussed, Pokemon games aren’t designed to resemble Death Stranding or high-definition games, and fortunately, it will run smoothly at 60fps on the Switch 2. However, it appears that fans are expressing disappointment over its visual appearance on the upgraded console.

I can’t wait until October 16, 2025, when Pokemon Legends: Z-A drops! Here’s hoping the graphics in this new release leave us all blown away!
