It’s a great year to be a Pokémon fan! Not only are the classic FireRed and LeafGreen games being re-released, but Pokémon Day promises even more exciting news, potentially including the reveal of a brand new generation – Generation 10!
Fans are also creating exciting new Pokémon experiences! A game called Pokémon Nova, announced on X, aims to completely reimagine the traditional gameplay with an open-world design.
Pokémon Nova Is A New Open-World Fan Game
It’s Ambitious
Pokémon Nova is a large-scale fan-made game created by Elena, an artist and developer at PhionGames. It takes place in the world of Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon.
Currently, the only information available comes from the official description: “An open-world game with a wide view, set in the Ultra Megalopolis from Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon! Explore Ultra Space in a story-driven adventure full of puzzles and discovery!” The Ultra Megalopolis is a significant part of Pokémon history, acting as a gateway to Ultra Space, a mysterious dimension first introduced in the seventh generation of games.
I’ve noticed this area is totally connected to Necrozoma, and it’s like humans are using artificial light to push back against its power. Honestly, Ultra Space is still a huge question mark! Both fan-made games and the official Pokémon games – especially the DLC for Sword & Shield – have hinted at its secrets, but there’s so much we still don’t know.
Even without considering the rich stories and details, the concept of a Pokémon game where you can freely explore a vast world is incredibly exciting – it’s something fans have been imagining and creating for years.
Pokémon Fans Should Keep An Eye On This One
There’s A Lot Of Pokémon Love In 2026
Despite having simple animation, Pokémon Nova feels like a proper addition to the Pokémon series. Its distinctive purple color scheme really makes it pop and fits well with the game’s focus on Ultra Space. A large part of the gameplay involves exploring the expansive Ultra Space, and you’ll meet returning characters while enjoying minigames such as Pokémon Paint.
Fans are already excited about what this could mean. One person commented, “This looks amazing! Ultra Necropolis didn’t get much attention in the last games, so I’m happy to see it included. I hope we’ll also see the Ultra Recon members!” Another fan wrote, “I’ve wanted a game set in a Legends megalopolis for years! This is exactly what I’ve been hoping for – please make it happen!”
Expanding on the Ultra Space concept is a great direction for a Pokémon fan game. It allows you to explore some lesser-known parts of the Pokémon universe and create your own unique content, since that area hasn’t been fully developed in the main games yet.
