Pokémon Legends: Arceus Just Got A Major Official Upgrade

The Nintendo Switch 2, released in 2025, features a bigger screen and more powerful components, notably allowing for much sharper graphics. Since launch, it’s been popular with Nintendo fans, offering everything they loved about the original Switch, but with significant upgrades and improvements. However, there’s always a downside.

Pokémon Legends Arceus Looks Way Better On Switch 2

When the Nintendo Switch 2 launched, a lot of older Switch games were updated for the new system. But because the Switch 2 has a sharper screen, many of those older games didn’t look good when played in handheld mode – they appeared blurry and pixelated. So, these “remastered” versions didn’t quite live up to expectations. Games like the 2022 release, Pokémon Legends: Arceus, were among those affected – until recently.

A new update for the Nintendo Switch, version 22.0.0, introduces a feature called “Handheld Mode Boost.” This allows games to perform as if they’re running in TV mode even when the Switch is in handheld mode. This means games can display at a higher resolution, potentially taking advantage of the increased power of the newer Nintendo Switch 2 model. You can turn on Handheld Mode Boost in the system settings.

After a recent big update, players have been testing how various Nintendo Switch games look on the improved system, and it appears Pokémon Legends: Arceus is benefiting the most, looking sharper and more vibrant than before.

Fans on Twitter are reporting that Pokémon Legends: Arceus appears to be significantly improved on the new Nintendo Switch 2. User Kevin (The Pizza Man) noted the game looks “so much better handheld now,” and another user, JR, said the updated visuals in 1080p handheld mode have prompted them to revisit the game, describing it as “extra crispy.”

Pokémon Legends: Arceus received overwhelmingly positive feedback when it was first released and quickly sold over 14 million copies. It was a standout title for the Nintendo Switch and truly deserves this updated version. Now with enhanced graphics and performance, it’s the perfect time to experience it on the Nintendo Switch 2. This update is a great sign and hopefully means more Nintendo Switch games will receive similar upgrades in the future.
