Pokemon Go Players Rage Over Unova Tour Pass: Is It Worth the Price?

The premium Unova Tour Pass for Pokemon Go has drawn criticism for being overpriced and offering insufficient rewards given the price tag.

The Pokemon Go Unova Tour brings a wealth of fresh rewards, counter options, and goods for trainers to uncover. This exciting event provides a complimentary battle pass system for participants to jump into, but there’s also an upgraded version available.

Upgrading to our Deluxe Tour Pass offers even more exciting extras, however, it comes with a higher price tag. This pass costs USD $14.99 (or its equivalent in your local currency), where you’ll gain access to enhanced perks and speed through the pass at a quicker pace.

Additionally, buying the deluxe version grants players instant access to Victini, an uncommon Psychic/Fire Mythical Pokemon within the game.

Pokemon Go Unova deluxe Tour Pass price called out

As a dedicated gamer, I’ve dived headfirst into the Unova event, but my enthusiasm has been dampened by the cost of the Deluxe Tour Pass. Frankly, it feels like a grab for cash, and I’m not alone in feeling this way. We trainers are vocalizing our disapproval on social media platforms.

So the Pokémon Go “battle pass” arrives.

On a Reddit discussion, several trainers debated that the latest release shares similarities with a “battle pass” feature in games like Pokemon Go, referencing its resemblance to Marvel Rivals, Fortnite, and other popular multiplayer shooting games.

Specifically, players expressed their disagreement over the cost of the Unova Deluxe Tour Pass, which was set at $14.99.

One Reddit user stated, ‘I really want to, but it’s just not worth it at $15. Apart from Victini, there’s barely anything enjoyable enough to try playing.’

Additionally troubling, researchers found out that the Tour Pass imposes a daily limit on advancement, which implies players aren’t able to progress as they wish but are instead halted from making more progress once the daily cap is reached, until a fresh day begins.

One Pokemon Go player wondered why they couldn’t advance beyond level 6. Another user shared that their daily limit was six level-ups, which could be exceeded over the weekend, allowing for an unlimited number of level-ups at that time.

As a result, participants can only reach level 30 throughout the event. However, during the final two days, they’ll have the opportunity to advance an extra 70 levels. This decision was met with strong criticism, being called “absolutely insane” and “just painfully insane.

Another Redditor responded by expressing they wished it was a bit more straightforward, particularly since this was the first instance of such a thing happening.

The Pokemon Go Unova Tour Pass began on February 24 and will run until March 2, 2025.
