As a seasoned Pokémon Go gamer with over 5 years of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel the frustration shared by many in the community regarding the scarcity of Mewtwo encounters. Having spent countless hours battling Grimer and Mankey in the wild, it’s disheartening to see the elusive Legendary Mewtwo remain a pipe dream for most players.

Players of Pokemon Go are frequently criticized for their lack of enthusiasm towards common Kanto Pokemons because they appear too frequently, yet there’s a particular Generation 1 Legendary Pokemon they long for to make a comeback in a manner that’s friendly to the majority of gamers.

In casual language, it could be expressed as: “The Pokemon Red & Blue series’ 151 creatures are frequently criticized as being overly common in Pokemon Go. Regardless of the fact that Niantic has a vast array of more than hundreds of Pokemon to select for Wild Encounters, you can’t play without regularly encountering a Grimer or Mankey.

Contrarily, the legendary and mythical Pokémon from Generation 1 are scarcely found. Members of The Silph Road Reddit community are urging Niantic to reintroduce Mewtwo in standard Raids, as it has not appeared in any since the year 2022.

Over 2 years since when regular Mewtwo was in raids. Is just insane..

Mewtwo needs to return in regular Pokemon Go Raids

It’s worth noting that Mewtwo made an appearance during Shadow Raids back in 2024. These events are exclusive to in-person gatherings and demand a skilled team of players who are well-prepared. As a result, capturing Shadow Mewtwo becomes challenging for rural gamers, especially since Remote Raids are not available as an option.

Players are hoping for Mewtwo to show up consistently in global Raids, preferably during events that span beyond a single day or weekend. Given their work commitments and other responsibilities, players require additional time to chase after this legendary Pokemon.

2025 looks promising for Mewtwo as the upcoming release of Pokemon Legends Z-A introduces Mega Evolutions once more. This could be an ideal opportunity for Mega Mewtwo X & Y to make their appearance in Pokemon Go, allowing players to capture them during Mega Raids.

It might be a good idea for Niantic to reintroduce Armored Mewtwo into the game at some point, given it’s been absent for quite a while now. Perhaps this could be done as part of the main series’ 30th anniversary celebrations in 2026.

Among the widely recognized Pokemon characters, Mewtwo stands out as one. However, it’s quite challenging for many players to obtain this unique creature, especially considering Niantic’s strong emphasis on revisiting the first generation. Fingers crossed that by the year 2025, even the less experienced fans will have the opportunity to catch their own genetically-altered Pokemon.
