Pokemon Go Growing Up Event: Candy Bonanza & Shiny Encounters!

For some Pokemon Go players, numerous candies are required to make their creatures evolve, resulting in an unfinished Pokedex for many. But fear not! The upcoming Growing Up event is here to help, as it concentrates on those hard-to-get candies, making it more achievable to collect this valuable resource.

At present, Niantic’s game features more than 800 different Pokémon. Most of these creatures can be captured in the wild, during Raids, or by hatching eggs. However, a few specific ones can exclusively be obtained via the evolution process.

Gathering a Pokémon’s Candy is typically the most challenging aspect when developing creatures in Pokemon Go, especially when 400 Candies are needed. To assist players in overcoming this challenge, the Growing Up event will concentrate on providing an easier way to accumulate this resource, helping many finish off the vacant entries within their Pokedex.

Growing Up event: Date & time

The upcoming “Might and Mastery” event in Pokemon Go will run from Friday, May 2nd, 2025, at 10:00 AM to Wednesday, May 7th, 2025, at 8:00 PM, according to local time.

Players should aim to collect as much candy as possible within six days, so understanding all the relevant information will help them make the most of this beneficial occasion.

Event bonuses

These are the bonuses players will be able to enjoy while the event is live:

  • x2 XP for evolving Pokemon
  • x2 Candy from hatching Eggs
  • Increased chance to hatch Shiny Wimpod
  • Increased chance to encounter Shiny Magikarp, Shiny Swablu, and Shiny Wimpod
  • Increased chance to encounter XXS and XXL Pokemon in the wild

Wild encounters

The following Pokemon will spawn more often in the wild during the Growing Up event:

  • Magikarp*
  • Wailmer*
  • Swablu*
  • Foongus*
  • Dedenne*
  • Cutiefly*
  • Wimpod*
  • Rookidee
  • Nymble*

Pokemon marked with an (*) can appear as Shiny.

Eggs

The Eggs will get a temporary rotation for the event, leaving the following new hatches:

2km Eggs

  • Happiny*
  • Riolu*
  • Wimpod*

5km Eggs

  • Mime Jr.*

10km Eggs

  • Toxel*

Once the event is over, Toxel may still hatch from 10km Eggs.

Field Research task rewards

During the Growing Up event, you’ll find Field Research tasks themed around special events. Successfully completing these tasks will grant you valuable prizes, such as encounters with Pokémon specifically designed for this event.

Paid Timed Research

For dedicated trainers aiming to maximize the advantages of this specific occasion, they can purchase a Timed Research pass priced at approximately $4.99 (or its equivalent value based on your local currency) for exclusive access to event-specific tasks.

The task rewards include:

  • x1 Incubator
  • x15 Pinap Berry
  • x3,000 Stardust
  • Encounters with event-themed Pokemon – Magikarp, Swablu, Riolu, Wimpod, Tandemaus, and more!
  • An event-themed Avatar pose

Players can buy and share Timebound Research Tickets with each other. But, remember that they can only do so if their friendship level is rated as ‘Great Friends’ or above.

Remember that, just as its name implies, the Paid Time-Bound Research will expire. This signifies that you must finish all tasks and collect their rewards prior to the event’s conclusion on May 7, 2025, at 8:00 PM in your local time zone.

Collection Challenge

At the party, there will be themed Collection Challenges open to everyone participating. Completing the egg-centric Collection Challenges will reward you with experience points, stardust, and a chance to come across Tandemaus.

PokeStop Showcases

Just like many other events, the PokeStop Showcases will be occurring at various PokeStops. So, keep an eye out for these locations to participate in competitions tailored to the event theme, and collect additional rewards as a result.
