Pokemon Go Gigantamax Cinderace Max Battle Guide – Weaknesses & best counters

In Pokemon Go, the ultimate stages of the Galarian starters have now gained their Gigantamax forms. As Rillaboom’s time has ended, it’s now Cinderace’s turn for its Gigantamax form. Here are the details to help you catch it.

Ever since the introduction of Dynamax and Gigantamax Pokemon with the Max Out Season, these massive creatures have been appearing approximately every other month in Niantic’s game.

For an exciting experience for players around the globe, the Galarian starters – Rillaboom, Cinderace, and Inteleon – will transform into their Gigantamax forms during the Go Fest 2025 in-person activities, with unique global free-to-play events available to all.

During the Instrumental Wonders event, we’ll finally see the Fire-type Gigantamax form of Cinderace make its grand entrance. Since Rillaboom has already made its debut in the Gigantamax world, it’s Cinderace’s turn now!

Gigantamax Cinderace weaknesses in Pokemon Go

The powerful Gigantamax Cinderace is exclusively a Fire-typed Pokemon, making it vulnerable to attacks from Ground, Rock, and Water-based moves. Despite the scarcity of Ground and Rock-type D and G-Max Pokemon, there are plenty of Water types available to construct a formidable team.

Instead, steer clear from employing any attacks that are related to Fairies, Bugs, Fire, Grass, Ice, or Steel when facing off against Cinderace, since these types of attacks likely won’t inflict substantial damage on it.

Remember that only fellow Gigantamax or Dynamax Pokemon are eligible in Max Battles.

Gigantamax Cinderace best counters

Despite the novelty of Dynamax and Gigantamax Pokémon in the game, there is a wealth of effective options to defeat G-Max Cinderace.

Outstanding selections for the top spots are Gigantamax Kingler and Dynamax Inteleon, since they can hit two of Gigantamax Cinderace’s vulnerabilities (Water and Ground), while avoiding any of its resistances.

If some of those aren’t available, you can opt for their alternative versions (like with G-Max Kingler), or choose another Pokémon from the list instead. Keep in mind that generally, Gigantamax forms are stronger, as they inflict significantly more damage than their Dynamax equivalents.

How to get Gigantamax Cinderace in Pokemon Go

During the Instrumental Wonders event taking place from Saturday, June 7th, 2025, at 10:00 AM to Wednesday, June 11th, 2025, at 8:00 PM local time, Gigantamax Cinderace will make its first appearance. This event is a worldwide, free-to-play occasion that coincides with the in-person Go Fest 2025 Jersey City event.

During that period, the 6-Star Max Battle boss, G-Max Cinderace, will make an appearance. Players are free to take on this formidable opponent as often as they desire.

Just a heads up, starting from May 13, players have the option to participate in Max Battles from any location. They can do this by utilizing Remote Raid Passes which allow them to engage with Power Spots remotely.

In order to engage in a Gigantamax battle, players need to spend 800 Max Particles. You can gather these by dropping by Power Spots every day. If you don’t manage to conquer the Max Battle boss, the Max Particles will be returned to you, allowing you another chance to try.

It’s important to mention that these unique beings can’t be captured when they are in their colossal shapes. Therefore, after overcoming Gigantamax Cinderace, trainers get an opportunity to attempt catching a standard Cinderace with the Gigantamax capability.

How to evolve Cinderace into Gigantamax Cinderace

Gigantamax Pokemon represent enhanced versions of specific creatures, but unlike regular evolutions, they’re temporary transformations exclusively for use in battles.

In other words, players are unable to transform their Cinderace into a Gigantamax Cinderace. However, they can battle and capture a standard Cinderace that possesses the Gigantamax ability.

In a Max Battle, after a player fills up the Max Meter, the item transforms into an enormous version for three consecutive turns. After that, it reverts to its normal size, allowing players to collect additional Max Particles to change its form once more.

Can Gigantamax Cinderace be Shiny?

No, Gigantamax Cinderace cannot be Shiny in Pokemon Go, as of yet.

Generally speaking, Shinies tend to appear a year after their standard counterparts, so if Scorbunny (the base form of Cinderace) was released in September 2024, it’s expected that we won’t encounter the Shiny version of Scorbunny until around the second half of 2025.

Once Shiny Gigantamax Cinderace eventually joins the game, players will find it distinct due to its evident changes. For one, its fur has transformed from white to a gray hue. Moreover, the red accents on its forehead, pants, and feet have been replaced with an orange shade, and the blue details around its shoulders, waist, and legs have switched to white.

It’s important to mention that the probability of finding a Shiny Pokemon is quite low, and there isn’t any specific technique to guarantee an encounter. However, players can boost their chances of discovering this rare beast (once it is introduced) by engaging in as many Max Battles as possible.
