On February 27, Pokemon Presents unveiled several exciting updates for the Pokemon universe, yet failed to mention one crucial aspect that fans have been eagerly anticipating for some time: Remakes of the Black and White versions.
During Pokemon Presents, we received news about the second season of Pokemon Concierge, updates regarding the Trading Card Game, and an announcement for Pokemon Champions – a fresh game for both Nintendo Switch and mobile devices which primarily revolves around battling, along with several other pieces of information.
Nevertheless, what many gamers eagerly anticipated was the release of Generation 5 remakes, but unfortunately, this did not materialize.
After the Presents, many viewers expressed dissatisfaction, some going as far as labeling it “awful,” while others hinted that there wasn’t much to look forward to with enthusiasm.
15 years after their initial release on Nintendo DS, it’s evident that there remains a strong desire among gamers for Gen 5 remakes on the Switch, even though those remakes may not have fully recaptured the original charm.

Return to classic gameplay
A major motivation behind the desire for a Gen 5 remake is that it would bring these games back within reach for players. Originally exclusive to the DS and only available on physical cartridges, the generation has grown harder to access over time. Additionally, being one of the later generations to adhere closely to the classic Pokemon game structure, it remains a favorite among fans who continue to appreciate that formula today.
Just like earlier games, Black and White included eight gyms and an Elite Four, much like a conventional layout. In contrast to contemporary Pokémon games which favor an open-world design, these games stick to a linear path similar to those from the past.
Contemporary Pokémon games feature intricate battle mechanisms, including Dynamax, Mega Evolution, Z-Moves, Terastallization, and other sophisticated elements.
In simpler terms, the latest Pokémon games offer advanced combat systems, with features like Dynamax, Mega Evolution, Z-Moves, Terastallization, and more complex aspects.

It’s been long enough
In 2021, the most recent Pokémon game that evoked a traditional feel was the pair of Gen 4 remakes, Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

Four years have passed since these games were released, and they revitalized an underappreciated era of Pokemon gaming by making a comeback in the present day. However, no new game with a similar style has emerged to follow up on their success.
As a dedicated gamer, I can’t help but notice the gap between the releases of some of these classic titles. For instance, it was a six-year wait between Red/Blue and Fire Red/Leaf Green, and then another nine years before we got Silver/Gold and Soul Silver/Heart Gold.
shift things a tad, and you’ll find that Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl was released 14 years after Diamond/Pearl.
For about 15 years now, since the launch of Pokémon Black/White, there has been a record-breaking interval between the initial game and its remastered version, which is the longest such gap in Pokémon’s history.
It’s evident that Pokemon enthusiasts were dismayed by the absence of Generation 5 announcements during the Presents event. A quick glance at social media reveals numerous fans eagerly waiting for an anticipated Black/White announcement, which unfortunately did not materialize.
No Gen 5 remake…😭😭😭

It doesn’t mean that The Pokemon Company hasn’t been developing this specific project. On the contrary, it could be a big reveal they’re saving up, or perhaps they’re just biding their time until the release of Switch 2.
Nevertheless, with numerous ongoing projects and the exciting Gen 10 games on the horizon, it’s uncertain when, or even if, these games will be remastered.
